I agree. Would love to see this in the NHL.

I get that the refs have a tough job sometimes, but I would like to see what the **** some of these refs are looking at when they miss some of the calls that they do.

I think it's been awesome. It's really cool on GC that some games you can toggle on ref cam whenever you want.

If anything it's made me appreciate just how hard the jobs of the officials are. The game moves so fast on ice level

As long as you only take 1 look at the video at regular speed, then you can use that as the judge of whether the ref ****ed up a call.

Cause, honestly, it took me 3 views of the Komarov hit to pinpoint the exact point of contact with Ekblad and I knew that the hit was coming. Ref had no idea it was coming and has to decide right then and there if it warrants a penalty or not.

Keep that in mind when you watch a ref cam replay. It helps to put things into perspective because the wide angle shots aren't what the ref actually sees.

If they don't release the ref cam for tv use, I would hope that the NHL keeps it to evaluate the refs. Have to see what they see.

I would love this to be a regular thing. I think it gives a really exciting view of the action on the ice, that we've never had access to before. I'd happily pay like 5 bucks a month or some nominal subscription fee to get access to a streamed ref cam feed from normal games, while I actually watch them on TV. Or hell, make them part of the Center Ice package, and let you pick if you want to watch a given game from the broadcast view or the ref cam view.

It would be nice to see these on replays when a ref blows a call...

The NHL usually seems really protective of their officials, so I'm surprised that all the parties actually cooperated to bring this POV. I dont know if this POV will be used during the season, but I like it. If I was a ref or their supervisors, I probably would not like it so much.

If I was a ref, I would be all for it. People booing and wondering "how did he blow that call?". And then they can just show the ref cam on the jumbotron. "Oh... there's two players obscuring his view, he simply couldn't see it." I think it would give greater understanding among fans just how difficult it is to be a ref that makes the right call, all the time.

Worst case scenario, a ref botches a call that he sees and it is shown on the jumbotron. So what? That's what they were booing for in the first place.

I am surprised how good the angle is for refs on the ice. Most of those calls are easier to make on the ice that from the telly.

The Komarov hit is a good example. Nothing wrong with that, just a center mass hit at medium speed, feet on the ice and no charging.

Positioning must be the number one skill for the refs, together with skating backwards.

Sometimes too much technology is obtrusive. They keep showing the ref cam in between plays and I feel like I am sea sick when I watch it. It adds nothing to the game but annoyance. I don't need to see a shaky ref cam, show me the professional cams as always. In 2016 nothing goes unnoticed on the ice, let the pros show it to us

Yeah, but that's precisely why the referee union would reject it unfortunately.

I forget what league it was -- AHL, maybe? Or maybe a Canadian junior league? -- but they had the audio of the ref's call upstairs on the broadcast. It was really cool to hear the conversation that was taking place. I'd love to see it in the NHL, but I have a feeling we will not be getting it anytime soon for the exact reason you mentioned.

I think you might be referring to this
