Any one else taking this in? looking forward to it. I think it will be a great event. Out of the ordinary any way.

I just hope it isn't so warm it gets canceled, I sort of wonder how they get the ice. You would think they would be prepared, but it is suppose to be +12 on Friday.

Ya I don't know what they do about the ice, definitely going though.

I was told that they have protected freezing coils under the flooring boards that will ensure the ice does not melt.

I don't believe them but hope to be proven wrong.

you have to think so, just because it takes so much to set it up. They are going to make sure it goes. Hard to imagine, but they did just have a out door game in California, so got to believe they can do it.

Fun little niche event. Would love to try it just to see how bad I can hurt myself. One of the perks of living in a bigger city is fun stuff like this. Wish I had something like this where I lived.

Are there even any decent viewing spots?

Just read in the EJ this morning it's like 70% scaffolding, so there won't be as many viewing spots as in Quebec, where it was more like 50% scaffolding.

Not going to fight to grab a spot with my 3 year daughter. Too bad.

has anyone heard if this event will be returning or is it a one-time thing?

I know it was in Quebec city for 9 years.

I would never watch an event on tv, I think it's kind of silly and gimmicky. But it's probably worth it to check out in person if it's in your city. I have absolutely no idea how attendance works for it.

From what I gather there are quite a few good sight lines. I think it will be tough to get right up to the track, however not going to be hard to see. Thousands of people can stand on the street. I think the best sight line will be along the street to the east of the Shaw.

I scouted the whole area on Sunday. Much of what one would have picked out as a favorite viewing site is either fenced off or is designate VIP areas. The best spots in and around SCC will not be available to public. I asked a few of the event staff and public is supposed to squirm down in Louise McKinney and basically see very little of the course which is 80% elevated on scaffolding over peoples heads.

Doesn't help that the event organizers themselves don't seem to know what good viewing areas will be either onsite or on the website which has basically been devoid of information.

I'll maybe go, check it out, PVR the thing so that I can actually watch it. We'll hang out a bit and go somewhere else I expect. Man, that whole place is going to be a mudbowl by Saturday.

Well you wont' get a VIP view, but it is free. So can't really complain. you can see the bottom half of the race from Mckinney park.

ps. I just told Replacement he can't complain.... lol.

I think the team event (?) is Friday night. No one seems to be talking about that. Maybe I'll take my daughter down and hope the crowds won't be as bad.

There's food trucks and stuff, and activities at Churchill Square.

We'll be going on Friday just to experience it.

Arrive early just to get a look, stay after as the lighting and track lighting in the river valley there just look great. Great view of the whole area (but too far away for event viewing) from Louise McKinney bridge. Trouble is getting to the bridge either way is tough with all the event trail closures. Theres also some things going on at Churchill Square, the Mac, some surrounding hotels. you'll catch the buzz from anywhere downtown. Kind of how Grey Cup weekend feels here but probably not as pronounced.

Traffic to downtown will be a little tough. may want to think about LRT. If anybody is planning on parking need to get downtown probably before 6pm. Even 5 being a good idea.

Have a feeling that this event is going to be a bit of a flop. It isn't registering with anyone I've been talking to.
