The fact that Panthers never had a chance in the series since Game 2 and Leafs actually had the chance to win shows the difference between the Leafs and the Panthers. Having said that, what’s the point of being the tallest of the midgets.
Vasilevskiy found his groove, and it began in game #7 against the Leafs.

He only let in 3 goals in 4 game series against Florida despite them being the President's trophy team setting a franchise best 122 points on the regular season and scoring a whopping 340 goals for on the season which was +25 more then our Leafs who finished 2nd in GF this year and also lost to Tampa.

Vasilevskiy sv% in his last 5 games ... .968, .971, .972, .971 and 1.0 (SO) . That is why he is the reigning Conn Smythe playoff MVP.

It also shows how little the regular season results matter when you are the best team in the regular season, and ranked #1 entering the playoffs on the backs of the highest scoring team coming in.

So what is Leafs re-tooling plan to be more like Florida and score more goals next year and win more regular season games finishing 1st in the Atlantic to hoist the President's trophy, or be more like Tampa Bay and attempt to hoist the Stanley Cup? Tampa Bay finshed 3rd in the Atlantic and scored less goals 287 then both Leafs and Florida by a fair margin, it was their goals against where they thrived.

Some people just noticed that a few of Tampa Bay's top players played poorly, and not because of anything Toronto did.
More accurately, some people noticed Toronto giving Tampa's top players a lot of difficulties, but instead of just giving Toronto their due credit for this, they have instead made excuses for Tampa and created this idea in their head that these veteran, battle-hardened champions just didn't bother trying sometimes for some reason, in between a red-hot finish to the season and a sweep of the President's trophy winners.

What specifically did Toronto to do Kucherov to make him not try?

Tampa won. Only losers need excuses..... like the referees costing us games....

I agree the better team won, but that pick call on Holl was a bit ticky tacky, the player that was chasing Tavares was not going to affect the play. The Rule Book says its a PIM but there are plenty of dump-in's that that the Dman interferes the attacking forward that is not called. IMO TB controlled the play in 5 of the 7 games, it was a super close series, aside from the reffing and the outcome, I thought reffing was bad for both teams, I enjoyed the series.

I think the point remains Vas has around a .970 sv% vs FLA and a .880 vs Toronto. That is not because TB was not trying its because the Leafs are/were a damn good team. This loss reminds me of when Edmonton lost to NYI, defending champs, Gretzs said that after that series loss they then realized what you had to do to win the cup. You sometimes have to have these sort of losses before you develop that championship DNA.

Holl is a moron. You can go skate into his lane and stand there. You can’t skate directly into him and lay a hit on a guy without the puck.

That's what we kept hearing from Shanny et al
Now he's more all about trying and improving and giving free passes

We keep hearing it because it is true. Washington lost 4 series (3?) vs Pitts before they figured it out. Edmonton lost some heartbreakers before they became cup champs.

The failing point for this team is once you have the lead, close the game out. We don't need to be going 1 million miles an hour, trying to score 50 goals, team defence be damned, every game, all game. That is something the team , including the coaching staff, has to learn.

That play happens multiple times every game and is rarely called.

I am not disagreeing about Defense wins Championship but the fact that Leafs made Vas looks like just another goalie in the series could be due to Leafs players instead of Vas was daydreaming.

An alternative explanation is the Leafs skaters simply performed much better than Florida's guys, hence why Tampa barely got passed the Leafs with a single goal after 7 full games.

I don't disagree that Florida was a paper tiger. Can't rely on a bunch of players having career years to keep replicating that game after game.

To be fair, a solid half of Toronto’s roster had career years this season.

That shouldn't surprise people that players get better until they peak and then decline.

Their top offensive players are 24, 25, 26 and 31.
Bunting got to play with two top 10 players.
Rielly had a better season before this one.
Engvall had little over 1 season before this one.
Mikheyev has had major injuries before this one.

Anyone else you think had a career year?
