Muzzin/Holl/Simmonds/Clifford/Kerfoot/Mrazek/Kase all need to go. Spezza too imo, I like him but he just doesnt bring enough at this age. Muzzins contract is too high for what he brings, I really like him but he's clearly on a decline now.

For the D go with

Rielly/Brodie
Gio/Lily
Sandin/Lybushkin

Add at least one more quality D-man or even make a big trade to acquire a legit #2D man.

For the forwards we obviously keep

Bunting/Matthews/Marner
xxx/Tavares/Nylander
Robertson/Kampf/Engvall

I'd like to keep Mikheyev but I believe he expressed interest in wanting to play somewhere else. We are very close, but we need to re-tool for sure. Robertson on an ELC will be a huge boost and I think he can replace Mikheyev and provide more offence.

We need a legitimate top 6LW, Robertson is still far too inexperienced. We need a quality 4th line that isn't a liability. And we need one more legit D-man, Lily/Sandin are both very young.

We are thinking along similar lines so here is mine:

Rielly/Brodie
Gio/Lily
Sandin/Lybushkin

Chychrun is still in play at a very reasonable cost. I don't know if we can get the Yotes to take Muzz without the cost being astronomical.. maybe we have to pay it if we want to win a cup right now... right......now....

We need to stop the Ryan Suter treatment of Rielly and get him off PP1... PP2 is what he is. 7.5 million over 8 is a lot to pay for a guy that can't kill penalties or run a powerplay. I am resigned to the fact he is staying... good player but please stop trying to make him fit where he doesn't fit.

Sandin and Lilly should both be given looks with PP1 and should be interchangeable to give it different looks. If we had a legit shooter from the top on PP1 we probably are getting ready for round 2.

For the forwards we obviously keep

Nylander/Matthews/Marner - i feel the top line should be all three... they can all use leverage to win battles and they can create magic together.

Bunting/Tavares/XXXXXX - Tavares is a skilled grinder... he needs grinders. Bunting should be a great fit and i'd love to get someone like Greenway. Boldy even better but hard to come by.

Robertson/Engvall/XXXXX - I would want this to be a hybrid line with a bit of grind and a bit of rush. a line Nylander could pop into if we need to split the big boys

Blackwell/Kampf/Kase or XXXXXX- a 4th line with energy but can also play against the best lines. Probably need a bigger player than Kase, with the ability to punch a face or two.

if Blackwell is 13...that's great.

Goalies

Campbell/New player - We need Dubas to hit on a goaltender that is unheralded.. Is it a Hellberg type? Someone extremely cheap that turns into a 50 game number 1 or at least a share with Jack. If Jack can't fit into the budget... let him walk and trade for one later.

Let the new GM come in and let them shape the future. If it means dealing marner or matthews then so be it.

There are teams out there moving on to 2nd round and winning cups who do not marner or matthews on their roster. It is about the "Team" not individuals.

It’s just more of the same to me. We need to move on from Nylander at the very least. And get a goalie that’s better than Soup. We have tinkered on the edges for years with same results. Time to go after the core

Maybe you are right but Nylander will likely be lifting a cup elsewhere and we were a PP1 QB away from winning this round and maybe more... anything could have happened. It does not need a full blow up at all.

Most think Nylander is the guy to move but I think Marner might be. $11m players should be able to win one of those two games. Tavares was close but as good as Marner looked in game #7, not a SOG. Sell high.

Mrazek will be a soft move to a middling team who misses out on the very few goalies available. New Jersey, Chicago, Detroit, buffalo, arizona San jose, Ottawa, Montreal depending on price’s situation are all teams who probably won’t be attractive to FA’s but would be interested in a goalie with a track record and short term stability.

the 2nd line was scrap this season and nylander cant play with JT and he's a waste on the third line. You deal him for a 2nd line centre. JT on the wing will work a lot better for this club.

Maybe you are right but Nylander will likely be lifting a cup elsewhere and we were a PP1 QB away from winning this round and maybe more... anything could have happened. It does not need a full blow up at all.

I just don’t see why this core is so untouchable? They have not done anything special. They had a chance to do something extraordinary and they failed. No need to blow it up, but something major has to happen on the ice. Tinkering around the edges doesn’t do anything.

Moving Marner or Matthews would be a mistake. Rebuilding teams are praying they end up with the roster pieces we have. I get it, we haven't gotten out of the 1st, but those 2 guys should be retiring here. The loss sucked, but how can people really watch that series and think blowing up the core is the answer ? We went toe to toe with a heavyweight, and actually outplayed them, just some unfortunate "bounces" that went in their favor. The changes that we need are in the bottom 6 and possibly in net.
