Re-drafted players that worked out

Shane Willis was pretty decent until Scott Stevens ruined his career. Martin Vagner was actually drafted by Carolina the second time around. Mike Zigomanis was a reentry taken by Carolina... not exactly a success story but he did play in the league a while.

Peter Hamerlik, G, Slovakia

2000 round 3 #84 overall by Pittsburgh Penguins
2002 round 5 #153 overall by Boston Bruins

never played a NHL game, but has pretty nice season behind him in Czech Top League. The best goalie and win a title.
He was also on this year WCH as 3. goalie in Slovak national team.

Mike Rupp

Selected by New York Islanders round 1 #9 overall 1998 NHL Entry Draft
Selected by New Jersey Devils round 3 #76 overall 2000 NHL Entry Draft

Ottawa drafted Goalie Mathieu Chouinard
15th overall - 1998 draft
45th overall - 2000 draft
Turned out to be a bust.

The best part of the story? The 45th overall pick was awarded to Ottawa as compensation for failing to sign their first round pick in 1998 (ie. Mathieu Chouinard).

I'm pretty sure tim brent was re-drafted... And he was the winner of no guts no glory, even though he was a career ahler prior to this year....still though it worked out for 1 year!

Craig Anderson which he took a lot of time to develop!

Selected by Calgary Flames round 3 #77 overall 1999 NHL Entry Draft
Selected by Chicago Blackhawks round 3 #73 overall 2001 NHL Entry Draft

Scott Parker was a 3rd rounder in 1996 and became a 1st rounder in 1998 under the guise that he was an enforcer with 20 goal potential. // obviously not quite what the original poster was asking for

Colorado's pick at No. 20 was more intriguing. Parker, 20, was a third-round pick of the New Jersey Devils two years ago but failed to agree to terms and was a re-entry selection this year.

Parker, 6-4, 220, had only three goals and seven points with 159 penalty minutes in 64 games for Kelowna of the WHL two years ago. Last season, he dramatically increased his numbers, recording 30 goals and 22 assists, with 243 penalty minutes, in 71 games.

"I think it has worked out for the best," Parker said. "It's unfortunate that we couldn't reach agreement with New Jersey."

Draper said Parker "has improved tremendously over the last season. It's not often you have maybe the toughest guy in the league score 30 goals. He's a great acquisition."

Asked if Parker might be able to play in the NHL next season, Lacroix said, "It's tough to make a decision like that. Let's give him a chance in training camp to prove what he can do."

Lacroix said he wasn't concerned about signing Parker. "What's in the past is in the past," he said.

Goalie Rob Zepp

1999 round 4 #99 overall by Atlanta Thrashers
2001 round 4 #110 overall by Carolina Hurricanes

Never played NHL game.

I'm reading they re-drafted many players in early 2000's

Hahaha, was not aware of that but way to go Ottawa.

How come most of these guys get drafted later the second time around? They would be more developed and NHL ready, I'm assuming. Maybe teams are worried in case they won't potentially get a deal worked out?

Doubts have been created. All teams probably want these re-entry players but not before they have to. They should be gauging when someone else is willing to pick them and sort of pull the rug from underneath the other teams.

It's a poker game at that point with no bets.

Does anyone know the story with Jarret Stoll? Looking at his numbers, he seems to have developed quite nicely after being drafted the first time, breaking 100 points before dipping in his final CHL season (I'm assuming it was due to injuries). Did he just really hate Calgary or something?
