I thought he was the best of the Finns at the WHC17. Looked like a future first round pick (probably late first, but the provisional projection a year and a half out can change). Remember what Veeti Vaisanen was supposed to be? I think that's what Alalauri is (difference being Alalauri is a right shot and Vaisanen left). There's no big tools from Alalauri, but he's good in all zones, and looks like a player who can play all situations. I don't see anything keeping him from playing NHL games, even if I don't see a future first pairing guy to how he plays.

He had 3 points in 4 games with Finland U18 in their December games. It seems like he's playing his way onto the U18 Worlds team.

As pathetic as it seems, he's probably the best Finnish prospect for the next two drafts, and I don't think he's even like an early first, but I do think he's trending towards being a first round pick.

I think Piiparinen is the better prospect but Alalauri is definitely the better skater which helps. But yeah, those two are clearly the two best Finnish prospects for the next two years.

Vanhatalo and Hemming also have a shot at being late first round picks if they have great draft years.

I don’t really see it with Piiparinen. I’ve heard a bunch of Finns mention him, but he doesn’t impress me much. And they had two right shot defensemen promoted to U18 National Team ahead of him, so it seems like they don’t value him that much either. But maybe I’m wrong. Time will tell.
