In Finland the tv viewership numbers are published weekly (unless a network publishes them), so you won't find out until Monday how many people watched the two Finland-Sweden games.

Edit: the network published them, as mentioned below.

Does anyone have rating/ viewership numbers for the first exhibition day for the world cup yet?

In Finland avg. 527 000 and peak 1 243 000.

For reference WHC final against Canada 2 220 000 and 3 250 000

There are only 5,2 million residents in Finland so the number was pretty high for exhibition game.

There definitely is demand for Team-Finland games in Finland but official World Cup games are not aired during our primetime so it will be interest to see what kind numbers they will reach.

Those are good numbers. Finland should be a powerhouse for a lot of years.

Wonder what Canada's were. Probably not great. The finals will be good I believe though.

Have to say, that is a pretty good number. The tournament may be on the upswing in Europe.

In Canada, if the games were on TSN1, ratings would be higher...ditto CBC...Sportsnet...Sportsnet1, not as many subscribers...
They were on tsn. Edit well north America was. Not sure which one between tsn 1 or 5 tho. Don't see the game today so it's probably on CBC or sportsnet today

Yeah it's on sportsnet. Wow crazy how infrequently I ever use that channel.

Tonight will be interesting to see the numbers.

USA vs Canada is a friendly but still should draw viewers but I think most around Toronto will be watching the battle for first in the AL East between the Jays and Red Sox.

I'm in Western Canada and I'll be watching The Jay's over Canada vs USA. Way to big of a series. It's just exhibition.

SWE and RUS group games will be 22:00 local time (10 pm) and also on free-to-air.

I'll probably switch back and forth maybe. Would rather keep hockey on because I find the play more exciting and just check what the stats are for the jays. But I'm not a Toronto fan. Maybe if it was closer to the playoffs in the mlb. But there is still alot of baseball to play even tho it's a big game with the Sox just passing the jays.

Yea I watch pretty much every Jay's game I can regardless haha. But if this was a regular tournament match up I'd be torn. Probably have to do the switch back and forth all night haha.

Bump sorry anyone have any numbers for these last couple games ? Would like to keep up with how it's doing after everyone saying how bad it was gonna do.

Finland is pretty die hard about their hockey team. I'd say even more so than Canada simply because they'll watch them play anywhere. spent a good bit of time there this year and was really surprised how crazy they are.

Dunno about Canada but in the US the games were on espnu and I think tonight's might have been stream only.

Canadians will watch canada play anywhere if it's a meaningful tourny too. Or do you mean things like the spenglar cup? But world juniors and Olympics it doesn't really matter what time the games are on.

But we definitely care alot less about the whc that's for sure. And i wouldnt skip work to watch canada vs round robin game exept for maybe vs usa or Russia.

As for watching the big games the government freaking changed the drinking laws at the last Olympics so we could go to the bar at 6 am or whatever it was. Nightmare to get seats anywhere too.

In czech republic the first rus-cze game peaked at 316 000, for comparation most watched program at the same time had 1 409 000

The next World Cup should be during the Winter, like start in late Januray or early February. Shut down the NHL for two weeks (history has proven Olympics and Lockouts don't hurt the league). Players will be in mid season form which gives us a better product and less chance of them getting injured. As far as TV, there will be much less to contend with as NFL season, College football and MLB are done. Having it now is a horrible decision so I wouldn't expect ratings to be as good as they can be.

im not saying Canadians don't like hockey. Just that the Finns will shut down their country for just about any game involving Finland. I mean they could play in the Arctic winter games or something and they'd probably turn out 1/5 of the country to watch it.

The issue is that would mean very few if any would go to the world championships.
