Fair. Its a UFA rental, all the offers were on the table and Gorton took the best one. Some people might prefer 2 straight 2nds then this particular deal, but I don't think the value is that different.

Personally I like the risky move here. Lets take the small shot of adding a first, we don't need depth for our organization prospect needs, we need shots at high end pieces at this point. This was a creative way of doing that for a player that had no chance of getting it without conditions attached.

Anyone who thinks he was bringing back a 1st or high end prospect just had unrealistic expectations.

I'm not thrilled w/actual return vs. expectations, based on recent history of Vermette and similar fetching a 1st.
I have Jeff G an okay 'cuz it seems this was where the market held firm. We only needed one team to break ranks and go there, but none did.

The worst part of this is we at part of Zuc's salary.
It's not the 30%, it's that that fact is the 2nd eat of 3 max salary retention we are using.

Assuming we need it for Hayes, that will make it harder to move/deal at max for Namest. and Strome, e.g., who should be repurposed for assets while giving mins to Nieves, Andersson and Howden.

Still, we have a min return we can live with, and long upshot odds to upgrade 2x.

Hope for HR with Hayes, and what we get for McQ.

But we need to move more surplus vets now.
Hope next day + is superbusy.

I'd be a bit more in favor if the resigning Zucc condition was on the 2nd. Increases the likelihood of that happening. Otherwise I was ok with the trade. 2nd and a good prospect was my hope, not far off esp. given the conditions

I will stick to my previous statement that Zuccarello's value was similar to Clowe and Hudler and that reflected in the return.
