100% dermott*2
But I'd swap out for Dermott if we're not using him on the Pp.
his first game was good, second game he was a hero with the pp shot. Am I losing it?

He's still a budding star.
Time to reset and cary on from here.
I'm sure Dermott is harder to coach than Sandin.Nothing weird about it. Every coach on the planet has players that they like more than others.
They started with the red light and brakes with Liljegren, telling him that preventing goals is his job. So they put a leash on him his first season. Part way through season 2, they slowly started taking off the leash. By year 3, he was a complete 2 way D-man pushing for NHL minutes.Look at that quiet efficient game Liljegren had last night. I'd like to see more of that from Sandin. Sandin will be a better defender when his game becomes more boring, less of a riverboat gambler. It's amazing how much Sandin's tendencies to push forward are being enabled. To go way back it reminds me of Dmitri Yushkevich in Philadelphia where as a young NHL defender he fancied himself as an offensive defenseman and looked in over his head at times. Presumably the coaching staff are encouraging this while discouraging it from Liljegren.
Rasmus:
His defense is fine .. his only issue is his lack of NHL foot speed .. and quite frankly there is zero chance he is gonna correct it during da season .. it will have to be a change in stride mechanics next summer and working with barb here in TOThey started with the red light and brakes with Liljegren, telling him that preventing goals is his job. With Sandin it is looking a bit like they missed the boat on the defensive development, and it appears he will have to learn to play D at the NHL level.
I think Barb left. Also think most players don't improve their speed too much by this level. Otherwise everyone should be speedy by now. Is Elkin still with team? Does he still run his company out of Iceland?barb brought in randi milani to learn the ropes ... she has replaced barb full time with the leafs ... barb said she will maintain a few select clients part time but wants to spend time with her new grandchildren ......
I have doubts that at 21 he can get significantly faster.. it's too bad because his speed holds him back from absolute star potential.I like the kid but he is a bit too confident for my liking. He seems to think he can deke his way out of anything instead of realizing he is in a tight spot and the right play is to just get it out of the zone. He is like a rookie QB who extends a play when nothing is available to the point where he throws an INT instead of just tossing it into the stands to fight another day. He will learn...but the playoffs are not the place to learn on the job IMO. He needs to work on his skating which is frighteningly slow for a guy 21yrs old. This league is getting faster every year...he needs to work on his feet more than anything.

My guess is he will need to be mindful of positioning so he doesn't get caught in footraces as he seems to all too often. He's pretty great at reading plays just needs to dial back the pinches and risk taking. He will be an excellent player for a long time to come.
