McDavid watching Edmonton overpay for a depth d-man while the rest of the West goes all in.

It's gotta be Bourque and/or Stankoven.

Johnston or Harley...no way.

My guess is Tulsky looked at his team and felt they were not going to win the Cup without a real #2 C. He then did not want to pay the huge price for Nelson and ultimately decided they could not take the risk of losing Rantanen for nothing when they aren't a true Cup contender without that #2 C.

I just don't get this from Carolina's view. Why wouldn't you make sure the guy wants to play for you long term when you give up a very good player to get him? Way too big a risk if they didn't get to talk to him before the trade. To me at this point, just keep him and hope he gets going and helps your playoff run. Dallas or another not likely to give them something really amazing that equals him right now anyways.

They paid a late first for a top 4 defensemen….
Who doesn’t play the right side… so now the Oilers have to force a left d who isn’t good on his left to his right. None of Ekholm, Nurse, Kulak and Walman should be on their left side.

If the Stars would add Rantanen to their current squad and Seguin comes back for the playoffs, as it stands they would have a 2nd line caliber talent for the 4th line, lol

I know something is going back so it's not going to be like that, but there's certainly players to pick from for Carolina.

My guess is Granlund has to pack his bags again, he played C for the Sharks and the Canes really need a 2nd line center. And they get either Stankoven or Bourque as compensation for the gap in these rentals.

I really don’t see why Carolina would trace him unless they’re getting a legit difference maker back. I know Dallas wouldn’t give up Robertson and obviously not Hintz or Johnston but what else would really interest Carolina that Dallas would be ok departing with? Also Dallas can’t afford to resign Rantanen unless they get rid of one of their young players due for a contract or find a way to dump Seguin but he probably has trade protection and trying to get a team to take him at 9.85M for 2 more years wouldn’t be easy.
