Rantanan vs Necas points race to end of season.

50-50 here.lol

Rants gets his best friend Aho and they will probably be on a line together at 4 nations in some intense games. That chemistry is built in.

Necas arrived to a locker room and media clips of his linemates visibly furious about the whole thing. That Bednar interview was tough to watch. Same with MacK. Rants walked into several warm Finnish hugs because he was the upgrade.
Agreed but that has nothing to do with on ice play. Once they’re in a game no linemate of Necas is going to be annoyed at him and play annoyed. They aren’t going to pout on the ice until they get their buddy back. Everyone knew that Rants was leaving. Rants acting like he didn’t think he was leaving is crap. He’s asking for huge money from a team that doesn’t have the cap space. He was always leaving unless he dropped his demands drastically. No one is actually surprised, and they’re clueless to the business if they are. I live in CO, I watch the Avs and spend all my time with Avs fans despite being a Canes fan. No one I know is surprised he was traded. Sad? Sure. Not surprised.

Rants can go to warm hugs all he wants, Aho isn’t more talented today. The pp around Rants isn’t any different, we’re just hoping he kick starts it. He probably will. 5v5 despite production the first line of the Canes had been off all season. Aho hasn’t looked great offensively. Rants is being asked to fix that. Maybe he can, maybe he can’t. Necas can do offense all by himself, and he’s being placed next to Mackinnon and is on the first pp with both Mackinnon and Makar.

Rants has the harder task.

Will even be interesting just to watch the usage differences, and how that may impact how they look on their new teams

Rantanen avg TOI on Avs: 22:30
Necas avg TOI on Canes: 18:05

So far, (not much sample size yet)

Rantanen TOI on Canes (game1) 18:54

Necas TOI on Avs
(game 1) 25:08 (highest forward)
(game 2) 19:34 (highest forward)

I'm more interested in MacKinnon's play than either of Rantanen or Necus. He seemed pissed off by the trade and the 1st two games MacKinnon has looked bad without Rantanen.

Pay Rantanen $13.5 million or pay Necas $10.5 million? But they do get one more year of cheap Necas out of it.

Avs probably extend Necas this offseason. And with only a year of this points pace, I have to guess he's in the $9.5/yr range versus $10.5, unless the cap going up is that inflationary.

I can't find a single example of a cup winning team paying a winger more than Ovechkin's slightly over $9.5m, which is similar to Stone and Tkachuk. Every other position there are examples. Even Kane started his after their last cup.

Seems risky to have a winger that high on your payroll if you wanna win in the cap era.
