The Fox trade is knocked down a peg because he pretty much forced the trade here. Gorton still deserves credit because he could have chosen to wait until this upcoming summer to flat out sign him for nothing, but taking no chances and trading for him a year early was obviously 100% worth it.
Yes, but there was grousing about the two draft picks. I think that Gorton identified what he wanted and aggressive in getting it.

the Nash deal.............Lindgren.......Miller could turn out..........Spooner turned into Strome..............oh well Belesky cap hit isnt bad and he's UFA next yr.

I get why DeAngelo deal is great but it was the Lias deal and he's gonna go for peanuts now......maybe

All these look pretty good, but Fox is looking like he can be a cornerstone type of all-purpose defenseman for a long time.

The McDonagh/Miller trade wasn't great.

Tough choice between ADA and Fox trades.

One a point producing beast with a nasty edge.

The other is quickly developing into a top paid defender.

Went with Fox trade and I hated dealing g two 2nds at the time

Stepan Trade. Identified that Step has already peaked and was going to fall off a cliff, identified that Tony DeAngelo was still a high end prospect , and managed to get into the top 10 in the draft. Amazing trade.

Getting Adam Fox should be running away with this imo
I think some people dock a bit of credit considering he WANTED to come here.

Going out and aggressively getting him, though, is why that move is so good. He could’ve waited and risked him getting wooed by someone else, but instead he paid a bit of a price to get him now, and obviously it was the right move.

Exactly my thoughts.

If we never picked up Fox, he'd probably be in NCAA this year and with us next year. Still a very good move, but that's just enough to move the ADA trade ahead of it for me.

Went with Spooner-Strome.... but I don't care about being "right", I'm over the moon with how hard this is and the garden of delights there is to choose from. The Nash deal is up there as well...

I separated into a 2nd tier the deals that he almost HAD to make because the player helped drive the deal in his direction... Fox and Panarin fit those criteria, and I LOVE those deals and players.

I feel like we should establish that you can't "take the next step" on these. Like, The Nash trade, you shouldn't be able to consider that Spooner became Strome, as that's listed separately. And the draft picks, the result of them, that's separate, too.

Or we don't care.

And by that logic, the Zuccarello trade was for 2 conditional picks that were potential 1st round selections

Some of that. Some of the rarity of what ADA is doing. Some of the value of getting a 7th pick (what happened notwithstanding). Some of the $12 million in savings and what it allowed us to do. Some of the decline of Stepan.

But they're very close for me. In fact, they're closer than the Nash trade --- which I really like, but it currently based more on hope than results. The results we're getting from both ADA and Fox are nothing short of exceptional. So even if Miller and Lindgren turns out to be an exceptional return, it's not there yet for me.

But I could more or less rank either the ADA or the Fox trades second. It's not really a divisive issue for me.

While the Fox trade has certainly be great for us, it was gift wrapped for Gorton. It wasn't a case where he identified an under-utilized player, or targeted a lesser known prospect. This was a highly regarded prospect who only wanted to play for the Rangers. Gorton certainly deserves credit for it, but I think he deserves a lot more for getting Lindgren and Strome the way he did.

I realize signing Panarin didn’t require deft maneuvering or asset management but having a top 5 player is best case scenario. We knew he would be good but he has been better than advertised. The cap hit is massive but so is his play and effect on games. He is our best player and Gorton got him (surely with an assist from JD). We have had many disastrous signings over the years and we could have lost our nerve. We didn’t. Great move.

Strome trade is the biggest value for the least amount given up IMO.

the Nash trade was good, but the residuals (which I am not using for evaluation) are what made it great for this team.

I think all three moves are neck and neck. The Nash trade is so good because he acquired a young D who is playing like a top-4 staple for a rental. With the Stepan trade, it’s a bit more expected to get good value out of it as Stepan was viewed as a top-6 center moving forward and was signed. Obviously, Gorton went above and beyond getting “good” value, he got all time value. And Stepan turning into a pumpkin makes it even more a heist. Beautifully timed and executed move.

Remember all the people wanting to fire Gorton over that trade when it went down? There were a lot.

I think thats totally reasonable at that time.. 2 2nds for a guy who has never played an NHL game, and wanted to sign with us eventually anyway?

Sometimes being wrong is awesome

I would point out that the 1st and 2nd in the McDonagh and Miller for Howden, Hajek, Namestnikov, 1st, 2nd trade are Nils Lundkvist and Karl Hendriksson.

The 2nd from Zuccarello for a 2nd and 3rd is Matthew Roberston. The 3rd is in 2020.

I kind like thinking of Pionk, Hayes for Trouba, Lemiuex as the deal
