Marc Staal is the winner of round 4 with 63.38% of the votes cast.

Criteria

The general idea for the poll was to rank the players based on who everyone thinks is most valuable. Take into account overall play and not necessarily point totals, although they do help. Ignore the contract if that's at all possible. It's more like looking at the players in a vacuum if you ignore contracts.

#0 -- Henrik Lundqvist
#1 -- Rick Nash - 50%
#2 -- Ryan McDonagh - 68.87%
#3 -- Derek Stepan - 77.08%
#4 -- Marc Staal - 63.38%
#5 -- ???

Sorry about the delay on this one, my computer was indisposed.

If the poll is most valuable, not best, Girardi should have been #4.

Its Cally in my book. Even on nights when he's not scoring he brings so much to the table.

Girardi IMO is the most under appreciated player on the team. A guy who will play 25-30 minutes a night--block tons of shots--play physical without taking very many pm's--is a stalwart on the pk and put up in the neighborhood of 30 points a year. He's not an elite player or a star--he's just a solid guy in a hard to fill right defense position. If he's traded or the Rangers lose him to free agency--there is going to be a massive hole to fill on our blueline.

Girardi. I was extremely frustrated with Callahan last season. I don't know if it's just because the glitz and glamor of finally having a homegrown blue-collar player wore off, but if I saw one more blind behind the back backhand pass from Callahan after streaking down the left wing I was going to flip. I'm sick of his lack of creativity. Doesn't mean he's not a good player, but he's not better than a #1 defender.

Which is why Staal and McDonagh are ahead of him.:sarcasm:

And OP, you spelled Haley's name wrong. It's Micheal Haley. I guess his parents misspelled it too.

Voted for Girardi too, but I've been voting for him since round 2. On Callahan, I'm willing to give him a pass on some of his puck decisions because of his injury. I was very frustrated with him taking weak shots from the top of the circles on every single rush. But that one was definitely easily explained by the type of injury he had. So we will see.

It's become almost trendy to remind everyone that Callahan isn't a top tier player. But lest we forget just how much he's in the blood and spirit of this team. That's why he's the captain.

And no, he's not the best in the world. But now that the elites are out of the way, this one should be Callahan EASILY imo.

Haley is an Irish name--origins in County Sligo. Sligo is in the western Gaeltacht area of Ireland otherwise known as Connaught. Micheal is a common Gaelic variation of Michael. Maybe his parents aren't as dumb as you think they are.

I would have voted for Girardi at number 4.
I love Staal, but with the emergence of McD as the top pairing LD, Girardi is more valuable to the Rangers than Staal as the top pairing RD.

"Tough call: Went with Girardi"
"Tough call: Went with Callahan"
"Easy call: Girardi"
"Easy call: Callahan"

Seriously though, I went with Callahan. If we were to lose 1 player that would affect us the most, and if we were to build around 1 player, Callahan would be my choice.

If this poll is actually about value to the team as we have it constructed now, Danny would've been #3 behind Hank, Nash, McDonagh. He is our #1 RD for a reason. When Staal went out with an injury and McD had to step in, it was G who stabilized that pair. I have no idea why he doesn't get the love here he deserves. We have nobody else who can do what he does. Cally has been out with injuries before and we've been ok. Not that I don't appreciate what he brings to the team, but we can survive without him. Without Danny G? I'm not so sure....
