Rank the Coaches

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Let's see how you would compare Martin St-Louis against other coaches.

Here's my ranking. I let you decide if it's ranked from top to bottom or the opposite:

Tier I: Mario Tremblay
Tier II: Michel Therrien, Dominique Ducharme
Tier III: Claude Julien, Jacques Martin, Guy Carbonneau
Tier IV: Alain Vigneault
Tier V: Bob Gainey, Randy Cunneyworth
Tier VI: Pat Burns, Martin St-Louis
Tier VII: Jacques Demers

I don't know much about Jacques Lemaire and Jean Perron to rank them.
This list is more about how much I like or dislike a coach than an objective performance ranking. If Habs finish in bottom 3 this season, my feeling towards MSL will certainly change.

How would you rank our coaches ?

Depends it’s based on what.

For winning a cup
Claude Julien
Alain Vigneault
Jacques Martin
Michel Therrien
Guy Carbonneau
Dominique Ducharme
Martin St Louis

To develop a team
Martin St Louis
Alain Vigneault
Jacques Martin
Claude Julien
Michel Therrien
Guy Carbonneau
Dominique Ducharme

My preference
Alain Vigneault
Claude Julien
Martin St Louis
Michel Therrien
Guy Carbonneau
Jacques Martin
Dominique Ducharme

There is a legend that Pat Burns once tried to drown Russ Courtnall in the ice bath after a game……..I can only imagine what he would do with Dvorak ;)

Difficult to compare. Marty doesn't have the experience to implement systems.

Pat Burns was my favorite by a very wide margin.
Cup Winner NJD
SCF Habs

2 x Campell Conference finalist with the LEAFS :scared:

Most of these coaches are of the same defensive mindset in how the game should be played.

Demers is probably the biggest player's coach out of the group.

Tremblay the most emotional

Burns the most scary

Martin the most composed and professional.

I don't look at it in the sense of who is "best". It's more about which coach best fits the group of players and what they need at that particular time. It's a fluid thing.
