I think you are misreading. It says the pick is currently Blackwell but there might be a trade which, as part of the trade, Seattle agrees to pick someone else instead of Blackwell.

Thereby keeping Blackwell without breaking any rules.

This is correct. Once selected, they cannot be sent back to the same team that had them originally.

Giordano I'm fine with, I just hope they don't see being allowed to keep Colin Blackwell as some kind of big asset. Even if they get to send Hajek or someone else worthless to Seattle. Blackwell and Gauthier are the kinds of guys you can lose in expansion, it's not a big deal.

I like Giordano and adds another leading presence in the room to help the youngens and take pressure off Zib/Kreid and the current "leadership"
