His name is Stromwall. Gotta love it.

Want to know how GF knew about this before seeing any tweet from the Bobfather/Elliott/Official Rangers Twitter/etc.

Kovacs connection.

Code:
Kid is clearly not SHL material, dont know exactly what this signing is for but okay... cant say its useless.

"Clearly Not SHL Material?" Because he couldn't produce as a 19 and 20 year old in it? And not knowing anything about how many minutes he was even given?

He broke out in the Allsvenskan league this season...oh but he so old..should just retire at 21 because players don't improve anymore.

Two years for Tri-City in the WHL--so he's acclimated to North America and the smaller rinks. We're going to have spots to fill. I like moves like this.

Would really like to get Caggiula or Stecher too.

Caggiula was on my wishlist all season but it seems we are not even on the list of teams chasing him. Why do we always go for the boring players? The safe bets... I want to sign these low risk, high reward players.

It's not always easy getting players like Caggiula. His road to the NHL would probably be easier with other teams than the Rangers. You make money a lot faster if you go straight to the NHL.

Not sure that Stromwall in any case will be a boring player. What I've heard is he's a very talented guy. I think Ola's talked about him now and again throughout the past year.

Well, I am happy we decided to draft more players like him in Buchnevich, Duclair etc.

Yep keeping signing ufa kids w upside

I will repeat the thing I said when we signed Chapie.

I rather have young kids who have not had a chance to prove themselves (Chapie, Stromwall) than players who have already proven they will never make it (Kantor, Nicholls, St. Croix, Noreau etc).

Of course the list grows smaller every day with kids being signed by other teams (Kossila, Prow, O'Regan, Tanev) but there are still plenty interesting kids I would sign to a cheap contract.

NCAA:
Andrew Gladiuk: 25 year old forward who finished his 4th year at Bentley)
Thomas DiPauli (property of WSH unless he signs this year): Not a big player, but very fast and good around the boards
Matthew Blomquist: 25-year old D-man who also played for Bentley. Really really high on my wishlist!
Nolan Zajac: 23-year old D-man, left-handed. Played for Denver these past 4 years. Younger brother of Travis Zajac, by the way.

WHL:
Jerret Smith: No. 1 on my list from the WHL, because I think he is a likely candidate. Attended our camp last year.
Dawson Leedahl: I saw this kid play when I was in Seattle. Was the captain in Everett and despite not being a goal-scoring machine, he looked to be the most solid player on that team.
Arvin Atwal: Strong puck-moving D-man. Right-handed. Seems to be what we need in our system. Got 50 points in 71 games and could be a nice addition to our D-pool
Jesse Lees: Same goes for Lees. Offensive right-handed D-man. Just sign these kids and see if they can make the step to pro-level. Low risk.

I don't follow the OHL and QMJHL enough to judge those prospects.

I wrote this about him back in October:

Kovac's teammate Malte Strömwall is starting to become somewhat interesting even from a NHL perspective. He now have 17 goals in 16 games -- in a league that's is low scoring and very hard to stick out in. He is a small very explosive winger that right now is just putting everything together and creates a ton of chances every time he hits the ice and finds the net too (he had 8 pts in 51 games last year, 24 in 16 this year). I am not saying that he will become the new [insert name] in the NHL or even the next Fabian Brunnström, but if he keeps this is he will at least be spoken off more and more.

Malte isn't really coming out of nowhere, he had a good WHL career (point per game in his second year), and maybe especially because his dad was a bit of a cult player in the SHL (he was more than a Brett Hull type though than a explosive winger though). But don't think he has had much interest from the NHL as of yet.

I was a little surprised at first when we signed him. Here are some thoughts.

I think the biggest reason for why we signed this guy is that he is super ambitious in addition to being a great skater and having played in NA before. At worst he will at some point come to HFD and work harder than anyone else (of the ice at least) and help create a good environment in HFD.

His strength is his speed for sure and his ability to challenge Ds 1 on 1 and take the puck to the net.

The downside is that he is diminutive and pretty one dimensional. He is not the type who sets up shop on the PP nor is he much of a playmaker. Hence he scores few cheap goals. OTOH he is really good for sure in those 1 on 1 situation. I've also -- not yet -- seem him be able to assume a role of like a Marty Straka type, ie someone that really can help a scoring teammate out in especially the two way game. But he is still young.

Upside is probably roughly something like a Mikhail Grabovski type maybe.
