I would think so too... guy basically makes up for this years lost 1st rounder...

I think if they do that they ship out 2 unwanted prspects with contracts to another team for crappy draft pick... would get them back to 48 contracts.
 
So when can we start to demand that Gernander don't ice a team that is not among the worst in the AHL? ;)

We got a pretty good roster down there now...
 
Duclair doesn't slide this season.

Duclair signed his contract in January of this year. He turns 19 in that calendar year. Meaning his contract only gets one year of sliding (2013-14).
 
Bourque will probably get a few games in the NHL this season assuming he takes a step forward again, even if it is a smaller step.

Maybe I'm crazy, but that clause would seem to apply if Duclair was turning 20 by September 15th of this year. He was born in August 1995...

Duclair will be 19 on September 15th of this year, the calendar year he signed his entry level contract. 19 year olds get one slide year. Duclair's contract slid in 2013-14. That's it, though.

I didn't look to see when his contract was effective. Totally surprised that the deal he signed in January was for 13-14 and not effective July 1 of this year.
 
Duclair doesn't slide this year. Since Duclair signed in the year he was turning 19, he only gets one slide, not two, which occurred last year. He no longer has a slide, which means his contract will be on the books this year.

Duclair turns 19 this month. Even though he "signed" at 18, he is for CBA purposes considered 19 for "last season." For this coming season, he will be considered to be 20.

If a player aged 18 or 19 signs an entry-level contract with a club (with his age calculated on Sept. 15 of the year he signed the contract) but does not play in at least 10 NHL games — regular season or playoffs — the contract will "slide" or be extended one year. The extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the year he signed the contract.

Depending on the contract's structure, the player's cap hit can be affected either by an increase or a decrease. Players who sign at age 18 can have their contract extended (or "slide") two seasons.

They can't start contracts for the following season until a certain date. Off the top of my head, I can't remember, but I think it's late March.

Good signing, last year he finally became man strong and became a very good utility player for HFD. 1st two years he was physically overmatched to the point where I thought he wouldn't get past his ELC. The added strength last year really shifted my opinion of him. He always worked hard but didn't have the athletic gifts to make a difference outside of his speed, but that's a different story now.

His speed and defensive acumen alongside his relentless work ethic should put him on the NHL radar for a call up. I don't think he turns into a everyday NHL player with the Rangers, but its hard not to root for the kid. I would say he's probably the 15th or 16th forward in terms of depth after Mueller, Lindberg, Glass.
 
Why did they sign him to a deal before they had to if they were going to wind up burning an ELC year while he's still in juniors?
 
When was the Duclair contract registered? When did Duclair actually sign? Was it in December 2013? The Rangers announced the signing on January 2nd. After New Years Day,the Rangers rushed to sign Duclair only to lose a year off the ELC. If Duclair signed the SPC in December,he would get 2 slides. If the Rangers waited until March 1,the contract would slide for 14-15. So the Rangers screwed themselves? The Rangers do a good job on their contracts.
