Thrilled Lundqvist is a career Ranger. Worried about the cap ramifications. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I do think it is a little high on money on years, but I cringe to think what would have happened if we let him hit the open market.... I feel like the Isles or Flyers would to have loved to take a shot at him. Woulda been despicable to see him in either one of those uniforms.

@AGrossRecord: Lundqvist: "To picture myself anywhere else, it was wrong, never an option."

Been saying it for months now.

I guess Islanders fans can move all those Photoshops of Lundqvist in their uniform to the recycle bin.

Happy Hank got signed.

Upset that he didn't even take the slightest paycut to help the franchise out.

Maybe he gave them an ultimatum?

#NYR goals per playoff game during Torts' years: 1.57, 1.60, 2.15, 2.17. But yeah, it's all on Lundqvist that he hasn't won a Cup.

So he is saying that but still got a NMC and 8.5M AND a long term?

It's nice to pay lip-service to the franchise after you get everything you want, I guess.

And now that we were able to sign Lundqvist to such reasonable terms, we can go out and get him some better offense.

Based off conservative 5% cap growth (where it looks like it will be up nearly 10% next year), this is Lundqvist's caphit in today's (2013-2014) cap dollars:

(So you can wrap your head around what 8.5million means in the future, with the reference of what caphit in 2013 buys you)

Year 1: 8.09 million
Year 2: 7.70 million
Year 3: 7.34 million
Year 4: 6.99 million
Year 5: 6.66 million
Year 6: 6.34 million
Year 7: 6.04 million

I think he most certainly would have gone elsewhere if we had lowballed him.

While this is true, even when the cap was going up before the new CBA there were still certain levels that top players didn't go past in terms of a cap hit. The real increases seemed to come at the lower end. You had second tier guys getting 4.5-5.5M a year.

So while that may be a way to look at it, it doesn't take into account the fact that the top end guys won't see their salaries vastly increase. It will be a while before we see a guy with an 11M cap hit, for example.

But the Poops of the world will be seeing 2.5M a year sooner rather than later.

The cap has acted as a weird form of trickle down economics.

But honestly, I'd rather pay my all-world goalie the extra million and skimp a little on a third liner.

Yeah, but the 2nd liners are going to get paid. That's the problem. The top line guys have this glass ceiling of around 10M right now, it seems. That won't get broken for a while, if I had to guess.

But the 2nd line guys are going to be getting 4-6M consistently.

Not even really considering the 3rd line dudes that will get paid, too.

Yeah, all lip service. Has nothing to do with him loving the team/city. :shakehead
