If we think Day doesn't have a long term future at D in this organization (which would be unsurprising when you look at his competition), i'd like to see him get a look at F. His skating ability is rare enough that we should try to get a little unorthodox in looking for a fit before dismissing him.

Day is a complete dud. He’s never making the NHL and is still a longshot to even be a AHL regular. It was a boom/bust pick and he turned bust, it happens.

Not his fault he was our top pick that year...expectations were always too high because of that

The thing is you can't just throw a player out on the ice in a completely unfamiliar position in the middle of a season and expect very good results at least for a while. And at best you probably end up getting something like Brendan Smith--4th liner. The issue often is that they're often not in good position. Playing style is another issue. I don't think that despite his size Day is that a physical a player or that expecting him to go in on the forecheck and hit everyone in sight is something he'd be comfortable with.....and from a coaches standpoint they are trying to win games--not so much throw shit against a wall and see if it sticks and that's one big reason why we don't see all that many experiments like this.....and then there is also the issue of how willing the player is.

Rangers also did this experiment with Ron Greschner as a center in the 80's and it worked out pretty well. Greschner was an incredibly smart hockey player with extraordinary puck management skills though. That kind of played to some of his strengths. He wasn't really a great skater but it was extremely hard to get the puck away from him.

To me Day became a pretty good CHL player but he's not developed all that well as a pro and I don't think the Rangers are going to re-sign him when his ELC is up.

Reactions: Barnaby
Carp had an article in The Athletic this morning about Barron. Talked about how good Barron has developed. Coach calls him a dream to coach. Barron and the coach said he and the Rangers are on the same page about what happens next--the Rangers wanted to leave him alone this year so he could focus on his game. They'll revisit in the off-season. This was communicated to the coach back at the Rangers' Dev Camp. Sounds like they will push hard for him to turn pro and he's open to it.

Barron talked about the pride he takes in his 200-foot game and how he's a power forward who will use his size in all situations. Carp also says Barron would likely go in the second or top of the third in a re-draft (his opinion, I think second is most likely).

Crawley is about to be 23, unless he can stick in the AHL and really look good next year, he'll be done. I never thought he was a real prospect, and thought he was ECHL-caliber last year.

Day is a year younger so he gets a little more leeway, but there's just not a lot there. The skating is still good, he has some decent feel for the puck on his stick, but overall he just thinks and operates too slowly. Hard to improve that. I mean theoretically it could improve with experience, but I don't know if that's happening for him. He looked the same this year in the AHL as he did last year.

This is the last year of Crawley's ELC. I would say he's done. I don't think he's terrible at the AHL level and he's kind of combative so I think he might bounce around a few years as a AHL free agent.....if he wants. Leedahl's last year as well. So there's a couple openings from that. Fontaine--injured?--hasn't played in a long time--do we sign him again? His ELC will be up at the end of this too as well as Gropp and there's a decision there too. I can see us walking away from all these guys.

Can Barron’s skating improve ? Can he play with enough pace to play as an NHLer and get in on the forecheck ? Someone on here posted that his skating was questionable.

Fontaine is out for the season. I assume the same for Leedahl who only played 2 games.

If they don't need contract slots I could see qualifying Crawley just as organizational depth for another year. Otherwise, yeah, he's done.

Good article. There's one there on Wall too that's really good.

Wall's on-ice education received a major boost starting a mere two days after he learned he'd been drafted, when he attended his first Rangers Development Camp, experience that through his college years has been both eye-opening and motivational for him -- including, Wall made a point to say, the opportunity to work with Goaltending Coach Benoit Allaire, and to share the nets one summer with Alexandar Georgiev.

It's always possible that he will choose to wait until August and become a UFA, but he doesn't sound like a guy who's leaning that way.

People will say he is blocked, when talking about him not wanting to sign here. I see the reverse. By the end of next season, our 3-headed-goalie situation will be down to just one. By then, Hank will be retired (or signed elsewhere) and Georgiev is traded, being 'too good' to be a back-up only. That leaves Igor as the NHL starter, and the backup job up for grabs. Perfect timing for Wall to challenge for that spot vs. Huska. The path to the NHL for him is as clear as it is in any other org.

Yeah, I have to admit I've never been quite as worried about this.

Lundqvist doesn't project to be on the long-term roster in any scenario, and even if the Rangers went with Shesterkin-Georgiev tandem for a couple of years, I think at some point one of them is traded/wants a shot to be a number one/goes home/etc.

As nice as it is to dream, and everyone focuses on the expansion, we're not looking at a Shesterkin-Georgiev pairing for the next decade. At some point, for the reasons mentioned above, someone's moving on.

This is exactly why I have no problem with trading one of them (Georgiev if I had to make the call) now

yeah i thought that was a great pick. Was always a long shot but I rather take a chance on talent like that all day long. Kid just isn’t a good hockey player. Amazing skater great size lousy hockey player.

Now if someone could teach me how to imbed the twitter stuff id be cruising
On the phone app: the very bottom right of tweets there’s a little icon that looks like some sort of tray with an arrow pointing up, press that, then Share Tweet Via..., then Copy Link, and then all you need to do it paste the link and it’ll format it and show the tweet as is for you when you post it

And I think it’s pretty similar or exactly the same on web browsers too, pretty much all you need to do is get the link to the tweet and post that

im always posting from my phone so this is helpful. Any tips on how to fix being super lazy and just not trying to figure it out on my own the last how many years? Lol

I'd be surprised if Wall doesn't sign here

He has a clear path to play meaningful minutes in the AHL next year, and he'll get to work with the best goalie coach in the league

Plus I'm sure these guys are very aware that the team does an excellent job in cultivating goalies to go have a chance to start elsewhere.

Talbot was the backup, and got traded to be a starter for Edmonton. Raanta was the backup, got traded to be the starter for Arizona. Georgiev is the backup, looks very likely he'll be traded somewhere soon to be at least in the conversation of a starter

Seems like a good deal to me
