I'm not surprised that both Levi and Garand are probably going to be ahead of Gauthier; and I don't expect Levi to give up the starting spot.

Hopefully Garand can play lights out when he gets his chances and at least make a conversation of it.

Berard led both the US and Russia in expected primary points despite playing limited minutes. I thought he looked pretty good when he was out there.

When will people stupid using those useless stats. It's worst than that idiotic analytic crap in baseball.

I'm on the fence. Probably deserved the game. It's another example of a player putting himself in a bad position in the open ice. I think he even saw Schneider coming before turning away. Still, Schneider had it lined up and didn't hesitate.

Of course it's the international game so they'll probably label him a serial predator and ban him from international tournaments for the next ten years.

Edström left his game after playing just a few minutes. Sounds like something with his knee.

Henriksson again without a point. He was +2 with 2 shots in 16 minutes. He's still at 4 points (all assists, two secondary ENG assists) in now 23 games.

Själin was -1 in 18+.

Lindbum stopped 26/31. He's having a terrible year--3.50 GAA and .882 SV% in 14 games. He has literally done nothing good since some U18 tournaments in the 17-18 season. Meanwhile, Jack Drury is out there looking like a future star, to say nothing of Perunovich, Groulx, Wilde, etc. f***ing great.

The German defender making that pass to Schumacher put Schumacher in a pretty bad position. Schumacher's reaching back for the pass as Schneider's committing to moving down from the point. Hopefully Schumacher will be okay but I really wouldn't be surprised if Schneider gets suspended and maybe for the rest of the tournament.

rest of the tournament?

that would be extreme and an absolute joke. A game at most and even that’s going a bit overboard imo.

Suicide pass for sure.

If you freeze it at :21 the German looks up towards the blue line. It's not in frame, but the only thing that's there is Schneider barreling in at him. Maybe in Germany's second division or U20 league you're not expecting a hit there, but that's a play where Schneider is going body 10/10 times. Doesn't help that the guy Schumacher loses half a foot and 40+ pounds against Schneider and probably gets killed even with his head up.

Anyway, looks like it was a game misconduct and not a match penalty, so I don't think (don't quote me) that a suspension is automatic. However as we've seen, the international leagues and the IIHF go overboard with suspensions, so he'll probably be out for at least the group stage, if not the whole thing.

Yeah Edström threw a very similar hit, probably even less violent, in the SHL the first game of the season. He got five games IIRC. The rest of the world is super harsh in their discipline, specifically with head hits.

These tournaments seem to be a bit more harsh. I do expect he is going to get some punishment.

The pass to Schumacher was crap--to play it he had to look back and cut his speed going forward. It put him in a really vulnerable position. The way that game has gone the Germans don't even belong on the same ice which might seem harsh with front line talent like Stutzle and Peterka but you need your entire team (not just a few guys) to at least be at a level they can make a simple play.

I’ve seen worse hits at this tournament result in a lesser sentence though.

Unless they’ve changed the rules, the rest of the tournament would be bonkers

In the SHL it is a standard 5-game suspension for a headshot. They did the same with Nils Höglander last season.

Yeah IDK. I'm hoping it's just a game but preparing myself for something ridiculous.

I’m guessing one game.

Which I’d be fine with. Don’t think there was internet to injure, and he didn’t leave his feet or even lower the shoulder. But by the same token, you’ve got to know the rules and be aware of who’s out there against you.

CSKA lost 1:2 to Vityaz.

Rykov played almost 17 min. No points. 0 +/-. 2 SOG

Here's a thing I wanted to posted about him but was forgetting. I saw him play in a last few games games (including the one against archrival CSA).

Rykov is on a second pair playing defensive role as a support to his partner - offensive defenseman Kisilevich. Rykov has played well if an unspectacular (read very simple) brand of hockey. The thing that causes fluctuation in his ice time is because if CSKA doesn't have a lead toward the 3rd period their coach would typically put two offensive defensemen (Robertson and Kisilevich) together and would even double shift them with small breaks where the other two pairs would take turns playing. In these situations Rykov even has to move to RD.
