To me, Barron, Richards and Khodorenko are all intriguing prospects for different reasons.
Highest ceiling: Khodorenko
Closest to NHL ready: Richards
Most likely to lead these 3 in GP in 10 years: Barron
I honestly like each prospect for different reasons and think the Rangers have done really well to at least stack the deck
generally speaking this is a good way to look at it, but i really think people are sleeping on barron. khodorenko to me is the longest shot, i don't know if the skating is there, just comes with the most question marks. still a solid signing, you never know, but don't think odds are in his favor.
richards i really like, just not sure where or when he fits. but time will tell there, if he belongs we'll find room for him. i really, really like him coming from duluth. you can't underestimate how far it can go to have a foundation in a program with that culture. thats just a gutty, gritty program - they know how to work, they know how to play winning hockey, and they know how to embrace a role. i just don't remember him from watching any of their games...doesn't mean anything, he's not coming in to be a first liner. kinda par for the course for a duluth player....if he has the wheels, i'd think he has a pretty high probability of finding a home on the nhl roster at some point and if so will be a fan favorite
barron though is a whole different level from these two. he's a stud. maybe its where he was picked, or cornell not being as sexy as like no dak or minn, or that his stats don't jump off the page. but he was an ecac player of the year/hobey nominee, people noticed. he's a big kid but he can move better than he gets credit foor, he's got extremely underrated hockey sense and hands/shot. hes not a dangler but he can control a hard pass or grab a loose puck and get his shot off, he can drive through guys to get shots off, he has the sense and hands to take a pass and make a quick move in one motion to beat or open up a dman to get a clean look...just a lot of little things there that make a big difference as the levels climb and the ice shrinks and your margins tighten. being able to do those little things under control as quickly as he does can make all the difference. i would not be shocked to see him in the top 6 / on the pp. this year will be tough, a lot in front of him. he's a no doubt nhl'er though, we're going to see him this year and maybe a lot of him. as far as forwards i'd put him ahead of kravtsov...and i'm one of the people that still likes kravtsov, a lot. barron though will be something like an anders lee for us in terms of impact, maybe a bit more production, though probably more balanced in its distribution than long islands cy young candidate
