Why would someone hate on Jones for being small and frail when there's a perfectly good Leevi Aaltonen to pick on.

"But he's been putting up points in Mestis, bro"

Not here, but I had a debate on Twitter with someone who was arguing with me that Mestis is a good league

To me, Barron, Richards and Khodorenko are all intriguing prospects for different reasons.

Highest ceiling: Khodorenko
Closest to NHL ready: Richards
Most likely to lead these 3 in GP in 10 years: Barron

I honestly like each prospect for different reasons and think the Rangers have done really well to at least stack the deck

The thing with Richards is he's going to be a bottom 6 role player and I'm pretty sure he understands already how he'll fit onto a team like the Rangers. At best we're getting a Dominic Moore type and that would be a useful player. He's a defensive specialist and a face off guy. He might only be a 15 to 20 point player though.

I see Barron and Khodorenko also fitting into bottom 6 roles but I think they both have higher offensive ceilings than Richards.

Zac Jones was a superb 3rd round pick. He could be a home run. I'm not exactly sure how he'll fit in either but it's almost like Adam Fox redux--only on the left side. The Rangers are just stacked with quality young defensemen and defense prospects. It's almost impossible to say now how this is going to turn out a few years down the road.

The Zac Jones hate is unreal

When someone is a bit slow out of the gate we probably give them too much benefit of doubt but OTOH when someone takes of like Jones we probably underrate them as a rule.

I am not a mega Jones fan, but he should be rated higher than many many 1st round picks the last couple of years.

Well I mean good is subjective, but in no interpretation is it good for a D+2 NHL prospect lol

Hey guys don't be happy a prospect is doing well because he's small, he'll never be on the Rangers if he is not over 6'. Heck, trade Jones now and end the useless optimism.

How's that 7 foot goalie doing right now? Move Edstrom to defense?

They do have 5 RHD and 3 LHD, but I figure that their two spares (Korczak and Spence) are both righties. Makes me wonder if there was a spot for Robertson.

Serious question: is Evan Vierling the best C prospect we have? I mean it can't be Henriksson anymore. Maybe Tarnstrom? Would you rate Tarnstrom ahead of Henriksson at this stage?

Woof. For the best farm system in the NHL, we have some DREADFUL center prospects. And with no second round pick next year, I wonder if we reach for a C (wherever we pick). Maybe we grab that Rimouski C so Laf has a friend :D

No doubt, it is thinnest position of the pipeline.
But I have faith a player or 2 will emerge.
(I won't rank, that's not how I track prospects, too little data, across too many leagues and roles)
I am not gonna overreact to Karl H's counting stats. If Covid hadn't interfered, he likely would have been 1C at WJC for a top team; I trust coaches in the room more than trans-Atlantic box-score browsing.

Anyway, the FO is aware, they added Khodorenko and Richards as NCAA UDFA's,
also guys like Laf or Barron or Krav may eventually get some C reps.

C and RW are both huge problem areas. We really need Kravtsov to emerge if the team is going to be able to develop a balanced offense whilst potentially trading Buchnevich.

Otherwise, we'd be better off locking up Buchnevich long term and trading ADA for the space to do so.

Center is a whole other ball game, considering Strome has one foot out the door and Zibanejad is a rumored 'maybe' because of injury concerns for a long term extension. I really hope this turns into Chytil's breakout year. Vierling, Tarnstrom, Henriksson are all long shots, and I like Vierling.

Probably.

Vierling
Barron (probably a wing)
Henriksson
Richards
Khodorenko
Fontaine
Rueschhoff (probably a wing)
Ciccolini (can play here but probably a wing)
Tarnstrom
Rempe

Not a lot of upside there.

EDIT: It's also why, despite my belief that Schneider will be an excellent player, I think we should have stood pat and taken Brendan Brisson who I think will be tremendous.

He'll never play here. We have way too many talented, small d guys already. Good trade bait. That's it. Howden could be a dynamite 4th liner but the problem is he doesn't have a mean streak which I like to have for my 4th liners. However, that's OK if he can be a 55% faceoff guy and he might be able to do that. I agree 2 years playing in Hartford in all situations would have been better for him.

Other than Lafreniere, the two guys I'm looking forward to seeing the most are Barron and Richards. We've had way too many dumb, bad defensive, soft forwards on this team. Buchnevich leading the way.

Barron i think will be like Kevin Hayes, played wing in college but his size would get him a look at center. he is a shoot first winger/center which those are hard to find. def worth a shot in my opinion. i think he played center in high school. I can be wrong but I think I remember him saying that in an interview.

Correct he was a C coming into Cornell but they moved him to LW basically full time. I like his profile better on the wing and I think the Rangers will too, but if he can successfully play C that's obviously worth seeing.

I think people make way too much out of positional depth for our prospects.

If your top organizational need is center, would you rather have Jared McCann (24th pick in the 2014 draft) or David Pastrnak (25th pick in the 2014 draft)?

How good a player is is just so much more significant than everything else, that nothing else really matters.
