Chmelar add Laba

Think we (generously) have about 15 decent guys and then we crater after that tier

I dunno, to me, after Edstrom, who I’d place ahead of TyE,
I find the next 12-15 almost impossible to sort apart from each other

Yeah I’m being generous. I honestly think the whole 10-15 group is interchangeable at best. I think only the top four guys and Garand are viable NHL roster players. Everyone else kind of a coin flip; some with better shots than others; I’m really only betting on those top four guys those

Edstrom. The guy has four and a half years of high level European play under his belt and his production last year basically doubled his previous best. He has a nasty disposition but is more than just a giant tough guy, as he has good hands, good overall skill, and is versatile, playing in all situations and all up and down the lineup.

I do really like Chmelar, he's a very interesting prospect, but his game really cratered in the second half of the season. Then you have a bad D+1 in a poor league countered by a very good WJC, and it's hard for me to get a read on what he is. I need to see more.

Add Noah Laba. I originally voted to add him before Trivigno but then forgot about him.

I mean Chmelar and Edstrom are next two, and for me both are better prospects than at least Emberson.

Don't know much about anyone other than Barbashev, I'd assume at this point in our prospect pool he's likely a standout

I’m kinda serious-
among Ty Emb, Triv, Barb, Edstrom, Chmelar, Fort, I expect ~1/2 may make it

But among Scanning, Larson, Mancini, same.

Among Laba, Henricksson, Vaisanen, Korczak, Lamb - same

Among Ollas, Boykin, Lindbom - same

That’s a lotta guys.
And still leaves another dozen who knows? Guys
Who knows about guys among the seeming bottom tier like the 2 ‘23 late round Fs, or Kampf/Karpa …

Barbashev.
Add Rempe. I think he makes it eventually as a 13th forward who gets put in the lineup for heavy teams.

IDK, I thought Rempe sucked as a junior player and I didn't think he was good last year. I appreciate what he does, but there's a reason he didn't really play down the stretch or in the playoffs at all and that reason is that he's really not much more than a goon. I do think he'll end up playing some NHL games, but as a goon, and to me that's not really worth anything.

There are still guys like Scanlin, Ollas, Laba, Mancini, etc. that may be somewhat less likely to ever play, but who have a whole hell of a lot more upside. 20 years ago I'd be higher on Rempe but right now, I just don't see many traits that will prove useful.

Fair points. it’s reasonable to say one of those guys will end up playing NHL games and be better than Rempe, but I don’t think we can bank on any SINGLE of them to be the guy who does. Hence, for me, Rempe more likely than any specific one.

For me rating a prospect is what is their chances of playing in the NHL.
Matt Rempe will most likely get that chance. He has a certain skill that at certain times in a team’s development that NHL GM’s seek the services of a Matt Rempe type.
He didn’t seem out of place last season playing on a defensive line with Karl Henriksson. At seasons end and for the playoffs, Chris Drury brought in players that gave Knoblaugh better options when intimidation doesn’t have the same weight as it does during the regular season.

It's got to be more than just playing in the NHL though, right? If that was the only criteria I'd have 1-2-3 as Jones, Cuylle, Emberson (or something like that) which isn't even close to being right. Hell Rempe might be top five then.

I think likelihood of making it is a big component, but for me we're still at a phase where ceiling and floor have equal if not greater weight. I think this is still a "what is a player's total package?" part of this exercise. Or, thinking of it a different way, if you offered me Player A for Player B, would I make that trade? If you offered me Matt Rempe for Noah Laba, Brandon Scanlin, even a lottery ticket like Rasmus Larsson, I would turn that deal down every time. Because for me while Rempe may get some games as "that guy" in the NHL, several of our other prospects would be substantially more valuable if they pan out.

EDIT: Apologies if I'm being argumentative, that wasn't my intent. Everyone can use their own criteria here which is what makes these polls interesting.

I think maybe when you get out of the higher tiers, to where Rempe, Scanlin, Laba are, likelihood of playing in the NHL at all becomes a more weighted criteria. But as you said, we all have our priorities when making our judgements.
