Proposal: Rangers - Oilers

Leon Draisaitl @ 50% retained


To Oilers:
Ryan McDonagh
Brandon Pirri
Dan Girardi
Conditional pick (3rd round 2017, if Girardi plays at least 60+ games and Oilers make the playoffs, otherwise 2nd round).
7th round pick 2019

Why Rangers do this:
Get rid of abysmal Girardi contract and get very promising young center.

Why Oilers do this:
Girardi is bad but not bad enough to not be Oilers top 4 d-man. They get 2nd or 3rd round pick and in those rounds you can draft potential superstar (think Subban, Weber, Vlasic etc.). And while 7th round draft pick doesn't seem like much, Pavelski was drafted in 7th round so Oilers could get lucky. Oilers are known for ruining careers so this trade would also save Draisaitl and they have RNH and McD as their top 2 centres so they should be OK in that department.

The value may seem not fair but please keep in mind that the only way you can save EDM prospects/youngsters is to trade them away!

But yeah Oilers should acquire Girardi and handicap their future when they gotta pay those promising players. Great idea!

Sekera is good as main piece for McDonagh but you have to add better prospects (or picks).

How about:

why are the oiler retaining on a 20 year old?

McDonagh is washed up, so I think Sekera for Mcdonagh @50% + kreider + Skjei + 2017 1st is fair.

Our depth chart would be baffling. We'd have a 5.5 AAV cap hit on the bottom pairing, and we'd be forced to protect both Sekera and Girardi in expansion. I'm also not sure what use we'd have for Pirri.

Honestly, a deal that's something like McDonaugh for Draisaitl straight up makes more sense.
