Confirmed with Link: Rangers Not Bringing Back Marek Hrivik

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
not surprised, and btw its not up to NYR, Hrivik is UFA

Kinda ok with him and he did ok, imo. Decent size and play along the walls. Solid as a depth guy, to me.

No Hrivik. No Beck. Big loss for Hartford. Hopefully we'll get active with UDFAs and the like. I expected Hrivik to be a 13th forward heading into this year.

Oh well. What will we do without our elite fringe NHLer?

I'm sure teams will be lining up to give him an NHL contract..well according to a handful of posters they will be.

Somewhere in the far off distance, nyr2k2 is shedding a single tear.

 I didn't think I pumped his tires that much. I think he's a good fourth line player, nothing more. Letting him walk doesn't hurt the big club other than losing a guy who is competent defensively in an injury pinch, but Hartford will feel his loss. With Beck leaving, too, Hartford will need to add 3-4 legitimate AHL players or else it will be even more of a wasteland down there than years past.

That wasn't toward you ;) I didn't even realize you were a big fan of his till someone said something in this thread haha.

Hrivik has spent the bulk of 5 seasons in Hartford. For his own sanity (and the sanity of maybe some people here as well) it's time to move on. Do I think he can compete as a 4th liner at the NHL level--yeah...he's proven that he can perform fairly well in emergency situations though before calling him a legit NHL'er I'd like to see him put a few pucks in nets. For now I see him as a kind of AHL/NHL tweener. Even 4th liners in today's game need to produce something.

As far as Marek as a center---I prefer him on the left wing. He wasn't very good at face-offs last year for one thing and his skating is kind of average and I like centers that can cover a lot of ice. Stepan's not particularly great at those things either by the way but Derek does produce offense and is very good defensively. Additionally one of Hrivik's best attributes is his board work which goes more with a winger's job.

Just having some fun with ya, buddy.

I am more disappointed about Beck not coming back than anything else, frankly.

A Brooks tweet that isn't confirmed by any other source is hardly "confirmed with link". The
link is to a blog about a tweet from a gossip columnist. I'll believe it when the team announces or he signs somewhere else.

Who else are you expecting to report this? TSN? Its an AHLer who isn't getting re-signed, nobody else is going to report it and the Rangers don't send out press releases when they aren't going to re-sign an AHLer.

You can be stubburn if you want and "not believe it" because it came from Brooks but like it or not, he's the only beat reporter we have that actually has any type of inside info on the team from time to time.

"From time to time" is the key qualifier here. Sometimes he just talks out of his ass. It isn't confirmed. It's been speculated, with link.

FWIW (unless he signs in the meantime) in 9 days no NHL team will have any rights to Hrivik. He'll be an unrestricted free agent and able to sign with any NHL team that offers him a contract and there may be a few but I'd guess that after 5 years in Hartford the Rangers will probably not be his first choice and he has other options as well such as the European leagues.

Not when he is reporting something, which he clearly is. It's confirmed, whether you want to believe that or not.

It's his "rumors" that are only right from time to time.

I like Brooks, and have read him for over 20 years now. But in that time, I've also learned that he sometimes is full of ****. I look to him for the first signs of something that might be. Not the final word on what has come to be.

Ribbit must be disappointed. With Oscar gone, he may have thought he finally had a way in to the line-up on the 4th line...being that he's a Center & all. Guess AV doesn't like him. Really sucks for Hrivik, as he put alotta time & patience into this organization...only to be shunned when an opening appeared. Pisses me off, but what can you do...

Brooks is managements mouthpiece, what do u need a tweet from someone at tsn whose 10 times more removed than Brooks? Neither decision is ground breaking Hrivik is the epitome of a fringe NHLer and Skapski wasn't good enough to stick in the AHL. Glad their parting ways with Hrivik they can do better at 13th forward.

A Tweet such as this from Brooks is absolutely confirmation. Sorry, but you're incorrect, here.
