Do you guys think they will block these playoff games out on Directv? I know the Sunday games will be on, they are NBC exclusive...its the other games Im worried about. During the regular season, if a Flyers Rangers game is on Comcast, it will be blocked out on Directv even if its a NBC game... This is a South Jersey Ranger fan by the way...

NBC is broadcasting every playoff game through NBC, NBC Sports, CNBC and NHL Network. Also, non weekend games in the first round will have local broadcasts.

You'll probably be stuck with an NBC broadcast.

Yeah, good question. I'm worried they may black out the national telecast so you can watch your local telecast - and, of course, your local telecast is not available since DirecTV does not carry Comcast Sportsnet Philly. I'm assuming this is what happens during the regular season, and it could also happen in the first round of the playoffs. You could be out of luck.

In the second round and all subsequent rounds the coverage is completely national, so you would not miss any of those games. The first round, however, is a different story.

Hoping for the best for you.

Man my g/f and were thinking about getting DirectTV when we move so we can have MSG but after these couple of threads I'm wondering if it will be worth it. I didn't realize they blacked out the games if you are in a different market which defeats the whole purpose.

The only time games are blacked out on MSG when you have center ice out of market are when the games are picked up by a national channel. So any NBCSN game or any game picked up by the NHL network. Otherwise you'll get like 80% of games on MSG

Yea, the only time all year the Rangers are blocked out is when they play the Flyers. But if the games not on Comcast, they will play the game on NBC. I know some of the playoff games will be on Comcast for the flyers, so this would be awful if they block out the MSG/NBC channel. And yes, I have CenterIce.

If you have center ice through direct TV you'll get both broadcasts in HD when it's not on nationally. If you have comcast you only get 1 broadcast, usually the home team or the flyers broadcast, and usually not in HD.

It should really only affect those in the Philadelphia DMA. For Thursday night's game, for example, the national telecast will not be available in New York or Philly, I don't believe. No problem in New York, as most of us would rather listen to Sam and Joe anyway.

But in Philly you will be blacked out of the national telecast, and you also cannot see the local telecast, as DirecTV does not carry Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia - a saga that has been ongoing for a looooong time. So you are out of luck.

As long as I can watch. I just know that on a Wed Night NBC Rangers Flyers game, they will block out the MSG and NBC broadcast because I live in South Jersey, and I'm stuck listening to Kenny Albert, which isn't that bad.

Thats my problem, I live near Atlantic City...

Yeah I am Comcast market. My current RCN package has Comcast so no problems right now, actually a plus as I don't have to use hockeystreams the rest of the way through. Next year though sounds like Flyers games will be a problem if we get DTV.

Thanks all.

You have to buy the league packages like center ice. Unless you try a less honest approach with using a box registered in a local market.(this causes other issues with local channels and on demand)

I live in WI & I've never had a game blacked out. You can watch the games on the center ice channels or on msg.

About once a year the season pass on the DVR that's setup to record all NYR games will screw me. It's when the game is on NhL network. Twice it has recorded the alternate channel with the wrong game due to a labeling issue where I forgot to double check.

If you double check nhl network games you'll be fine.

Watching/recording on MSG allows me to get all of the pre/post game stuff.

Well, first of all Center Ice is only for the regular season, not the playoffs.

And secondly, MSG is blacked out in the other teams home market - i.e. we cannot watch the Red Wings broadcast on Center Ice when the Rangers are playing the Detroit. Once again, the issue in the Philadelphia DMA is that it is one of the few cities where DirecTV does not carry the local RSN - Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia.

First of all,

I didn't reply to you. I replied to the person speaking generally of getting Dtv when they moved.

As did I. The Center Ice situation you have in Wisconsin is different than the Center Ice situation in Philadelphia, which is what I was pointing out to him.

I live in Hammonton, zip 08037, and I get MSG network as my local network, so I don't think I will get blacked out of anything. It all depends what zip codes for DirecTV as to who gets MSG as a local channel and who doesn't.

The only times I have ever been blacked out are when the game is carried nationally on NBCSN, locally on Comcast SportsNet, and not on MSG at all, because MSG doesn't show the game that's on a national network. Because Comcast happens to own the Flyers AND NBC, Comcast will show the game on both networks, and black me out on the national feed. In that event, NBCSN is blacked out, and I don't get Comcast SportsNet.

Thankfully for me, even in the event of this idiocy affecting my game watching experience, I have neighbors I can run over to and watch there, but I think I'll be fine. MSG itself is never blacked out for me.

Ooh, if Hammonton is considered New York and not Philly by DirecTV, that's a really good sign for the person who is moving to the Atlantic City area. I assumed all of Atlantic County is considered Philly by DirecTV, but perhaps that's incorrect!

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe that any zip code that starts in 080 gets MSG Network. Egg Harbor City, 08215, for example does not get MSG, but Marlton, 08053, and Cherry Hill, 08003, which are both closer to Philly, do.

Interesting. Just to be sure, you're talking about DirecTV and getting MSG as the home regional sports network, correct? The Sports pack is handled differently.

Yes. DirecTV has a link where you can plug a zip code in and see what regional sports networks you get. I used to get YES Network and SNY, but that changed for some reason a few years back. I don't subscribe to Sports Pack, because by the grace of God, I get MSG Network, and that's worth my entire cable bill by itself.

Wow nice, thanks. So there is hope for our friend who is moving near AC. He can plug his new zip code into the link and hope for the best!
