Rangers - Canes Series (BORING)

What's with the pace (or lack thereof) in this series? I honestly could not believe how boring Game 2 was. Game 1 was slightly better but this was not NHL playoff hockey in any sense.

Which team is more to blame for this?
Well Canes should be the one to blame, since they were the nr.1 team in goals against...

That being said some people actually really enjoy this type of games :>

Canes defensive play is superb and Rangers are looking like a team that's not sure how to play them so they're echoing the Canes style.

Both teams are capable of much more entertaining play. If Carolina goes up in game 3 I can see them loosening the reigns a little bit.

Til then, both teams are going to be playing some sort of trapping style or be genuinely tentative on rushes coming out of their zones.

I'm a Rangers fan, and I concur, the series is tough to watch [especially after an exhilarating series against Pittsburgh]. The Hurricanes fan base doesn't even seem very into it, and I don't blame them.

I saw some of Boston/Carolina and all of New York/Pittsburgh, and both were substantially better than this.

If you think the Canes' fan base isn't very into it, you should see the GDT on their board.

Compared to the number of chances generated in the Pittsburgh rangers series I agree this is very low event hockey.

Well tell my ears that.....I was at both games and last night's in particular the noise was deafening. Canes fans were on the edge of their seats all night and the team executed very well against a good defensive effort by the Rangers.

The players from both teams were flying up and down the ice.

I like the play of this series so far, it give me a throwback feeling of when defense actually mattered in the sport and everything wasn't so flashy. Don't get me wrong, I love to see the McDavid's and the Matthews of the world lighting the lamp up and seeing McDavid do things on skates that I didnt think was a possibility. However, it feels like which ever team gets to 2 goals first is going to win the game and any mistake by either team can literally be the goal the that wins a game.

Similar to the Bruins series - the team scoring first wins the game generally. Carolina is a very different team when trailing versus tied or leading.

NYR needs to score first and often. Whatever they are attempting is not good enough.

It doesn't help to see such little physicality. NYR had 13 shots and 13 hits after two periods in game 2. Dull product.

To be fair, this one and the Panthers- lightning series are both boring.

I haven't watched the avs and blues until tonight, but it's probably boring, too

stakes are high, and the Canes are doing what they have to do to slow down the rangers. Albeit, relying on a backup goalie to win a playoff series or not lose it is risky no matter how tight defensively you play. Shesty is gonna have to elevate his play more as his competition was a #3 last series and a #2.

Maybe because they are the top two teams defensive teams in goals allowed this year interestingly Calgary is third. The Rangers are the top team in save percentage and Carolina is ranked third. Carolina allows the least shots on net as well.

Rangers will need to be very careful, in their own rink, to not open up and try to be more entertaining. Canes are playing super defensively, and hoping for turnover chances off the rush, and PPs. If the Rangers keep the chances (for both teams) low then their advantage in goal should start to show.

To be more in depth...this is just a game of styles like most series are all different.

Carolina wants to forecheck and cycle for offense. The Rangers are putting out Fox 30 minutes a night to transition quickly out of their zone. Goaler is also good puck player help break up forecheck.

Rongos generate offense on rush but Canes forwards back check and d maintain tight gaps.

Both teams neutralize others styles well so this is what you see.

If you like checkers more than chess watch Edmonton.

The last round the Canes played a great defensive team in Boston who got lit up by them because they couldn't handle the forecehck. Boston was able to score with good fast puck movement and precise passing.

It's like in mma where when two good strikers meet usually guy who is better wrestler wins.

This the first time op seen playoffs?

Maybe an Edmonton fan and never seen defense?

Like they say defense wins championships.

Strange to throw Oiler posters under the bus when the OP is not an Oiler poster… but hey, since you brought it up… you know what the Oiler fans have seen…

Gretzky
Messier
Kurri
Coffey
Anderson
Fuhr
McDavid
Draisaitl

… oh and you know, FIVE Stanley Cups…. I mean one pathetic franchise even had to target and injure our starting goalie to win their ONE lonely Cup.

… and yes, I’ve seen all of that.

2 of the best teams defensively in the league going head to head. I could see the Rangers try and open things up tomorrow. They cannot to be playing a patient game and try and wait for Carolina to make a mistake

I could see the Rangers coming out flying. They've played some really exciting hockey along the way. That being said Canes are actually known to be a fast and aggressive also in offense.

As long as the goalies hold, it's still fair to expect a low scoring game. Pretty much the polar opposite to the BoA -series.
