$5.5m this year. $1.5m next year.

~$12m in dead space this year between Hank, Girardi, and Shattenkirk. Richards was a compliance buyout so he doesn't count against the cap.

Thanks very much!

I suppose it’s not a huge deal for now. We have a bunch of real solid players on ELCs. By the time they’re ready for their next contracts we’ll be off the hook for some of these buyouts.

Can someone remind me what the buyout terms are?

What are we on the hook for (cap-wise) after buying Hank out?

These buy-outs have to be adding up, no? Aren’t we still paying Richards, G, etc?

$5.5M this year (saving $3M), $1.5M next year, as reported and posted in the forums. $13M in dead cap space.

Yeah it's really not a huge deal this season and that overall number drops quite drastically next year. From $12.9m to $4m then $2.5m the following year.

Obviously we have some contracts to sign over the next couple weeks and things will change but we have ~$44m in cap space in 2021 as of today. We'll be fine.

Very sad day, but I'm grateful to have been able to witness his greatness for the past 15 years.

Wherever he ends up next, and whatever he chooses to do, I'll be rooting for him. I hope he gets a chance to win the cup that eluded him here in NY.

That image of him lying flat on his stomach after the Martinez goal is still seared in my brain.

I am not going to put a number on who is the best Ranger I have ever seen or anything like that but suffice Hank was amazing and always gave his all. I can't thank him enough for making quite a few shitty teams watchable and or carrying the team on his back for quite a few seasons. He's a first ballot hall of famer and it's complete bunk to say he has an asterisk or some kind of stigma because he didn't win the cup, f*** that noise. If he had some of the teams uncle daddy had, he would have had 4 or 5 cups easily. His numbers in game 7's and elimination games are pretty remarkable, he rose up when it mattered. I won't go the the mainboard to se what a bunch of mouth breathers have to say about that.

He was flat out the best goalie of his generation and I don't think that it's particularly close. I have seen one goalie in all my time of watching hockey (45 years) who I think is (demonstrably) better and that was Hasek.

Not much of a post but honestly, a text on hfboards can't illustrate how synonymous he is with the Rangers. He's the goalie I grew up with

Goddamn. A sad day indeed

New York Rangers - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
In 20/21, a total of almost $13 million in dead cap space for NYR. $5.5 for Lundqvist, another $6 for Shattenkirk, $300k for Spooner and $1.1m for Girardi. In 21/22, it shrinks down to $4m and $2.5m in 22/23. Richards was a compliance buyout and doesn't count.

All in all, a boatload of money in the dirt. If it's anything NYR is famous for, it's signing terrible UFA contracts. Alot of that is because of $ather's hell spree.

More than Edmonton has on the books for McDavid

You know, when he’s playing bad and you start to puff your chest out and say things like “well he’s old now they’ll just buy him out!” You don’t realize how shitty you actually feel when it actually happens and they do buy him out.

Please sign somewhere and go win the whole f***ing thing.
