He’s going to retire. There isn’t going to be a chair for him when the music stops here. That’s been my long standing opinion I’m sticking to it

i can’t see Hank in an unfamiliar locker room knowing he’s not the player he once was. He’s no legend among most on another team. He’s an old goalie who once played in the Finals.

Retire

Brodeur played in St Louis. Hasek moved to Detroit. Anything can happen.

com’on, Brodeur played only seven games while Hasek was still playing well and added to a Power house.
Just saying ... I don’t think many people expected to see Brodeur wearing anything but a Devils jersey; no one expected Hasek to not wear a Sabres jersey until his last season in Buffalo — when, if I recall correctly, he said he wanted to win a Cup.

hasek won 2 stanley cups, 3 vezinas, 1 hart and 1 jennings as a red wing so not really the same
All I’m saying is no one expected him to switch teams. I’m not talking about post-switch performances. We don’t know what Hank could do on a good team — even at his age — though I think his Vezina years are long gone:

Someone is going to take a flier on Hank. Wait and see. The question, to me, is if Hank will be content with whatever his role will be - that will be the factor in determining whether he continues his NHL career or not. I wish him well.

Hasek won "only" 2 Cups while with the Wings. His MVP seasons and Vezinas were all with the Sabres.

He also only played 4 playoff games in the second Cup run. Hasek was 2 years younger than Hank when he moved to Detroit. He also retired at 37, but decided to come back after that.

Beyond that, the Sabres weren't even his first team, and he didn't even play for them for a decade. That's a very different situation than Hank who played for the Rangers and only the Rangers for 15 years or Brodeur who played for the Devils and only the Devils for 20.

I don't recall there being a lot of shock to see Hasek in Detroit. His one year in Ottawa was weird though.

sorry you are right. hockey-reference.com is awful and lists where players finished in the award voting making it look like they won the award at quick glance.

I'm in the minority but I could live with Hank on the Caps. It's not preferred by any means but I don't hold the Caps on that same level of rivals like I do the Isles, Flyers, Devils, and even the Penguins. Probably depends on where you live, who you interact with, etc but I don't hold anywhere near the same level of disdain for the Caps as I do those teams.

Again not preferred (ultimately I'd like to see Hank keep playing but out of division) but better that than some disaster scenario where he signs on with NJD as a backup.

I put the Caps above all those teams other than maybe the Devils.

Islanders will get there in the coming years but we haven't really lived through a legit Rangers/Islanders time period of us both being good.

Flyers are the team I really have no distain for at all.

Really can’t be upset where he goes, Rangers bought him out it’s his right to find another team. If he still has hockey left in him, which I believe he does then he can go wherever he likes and I won’t be upset with him.

Mods, can we perhaps lock this and restrict all discussion to the tribute thread? Everyone's had a chance to process and respond to this, and we are entering a week where we expect to see a lot of new moves, and we should probably reserve the "Confirmed with Link" tag for those...
