Sorry, but I don't understand treating Lundqvist like a saint who cannot be criticized. Eli Manning was dragged through the mud toward the end of his career and he deserved love more than Henrik does.

If he and the Rangers had mutually agreed to void the remainder of the contract, now that would have been impressive and praiseworthy. But the NHL continued to be a business today. I appreciate Henrik's tenure as a Ranger; he's definitely going to get his #30 retired here. The fact remains, though, that it was more than past his time to go.

On the right team, for 1-2 mil for 1 year, he can be a steal. Probably better suited for a backup role or possibly a 1B role, but he also brings a ton of leadership and mentoring ability. He definitely should get signed. But man, as a fan who has watched him play since around his rookie season, or even as a hockey fan for that matter, it’s going to be WEIRD seeing him in another jersey. I’m talking about Brodeur on the Blues type weird

I love Hank but he played like shit this year. My loyalty is to the team not a player. If wins the cup with someone else, I'll be happy for him (unless it's with a rival that either beats us or screws us over lol).

Not quite sure what's more impressive to be honest, his 1st ballot Hall of Fame career, or his tireless work with the Garden of Dreams as someone who isnt a native NYer.

Doubt I'll ever get attached to another athlete the way I did with Hank.

I'm sure he could have made that and more over future years in NY. Maybe not. Maybe if you leave money on the table a team can never hire you for any reason.

Never walk away from guaranteed money for deferrments.

I agree. Luck plays a huge role in any win. And you have to think, if Zucc is 100% and in the line up, when the games are that close, he could have been a difference maker.

The series definitely could have gone 6 or 7 with some luck. But, the right team won. They were just better than the Rangers.

Zucc played that whole run in '14.

The run in '15 is when he got hit with the puck from McDonagh vs PIT and missed the WSH and TBL series.

Not sure if it was mentioned, so forgive me if it was.

Lebrun spoken to Don Meehan today, he was non-committal about Hank playing elsewhere. "To be determined".

I have a couple of different scenarios floating around my head. It wouldn't shock me if Lundqvist decides not to play next season. With so many goalies on the market, this off-season and the distinct possibility that things are very much in flux for the upcoming season because of COVID19 Lundqvist may decide to sit out part of the season and re-evaluate at the trade deadline, or sit out the entire season and see how things shake out the following year. I know his age will come into play. I think there are enough crazy variables in play that may yield some interesting decisions.

There is also this possibility that he lands in Vegas. Apparently, Robin Lehner's father was Hanks's goalie coach in Sweeden. There would be some familiarity there. Vegas is a contender and, Vegas would love Lundqvist. He is perfect for that city.

Why were so many here willing to "get rid of/trade" Georgiev (a young and seemingly capable back-up, at the very least) ....for just one more year of Hank? I love Hank and all he has done for us, but ridding Georgiev in that context just makes absolutely no sense. Isnt a "bird in the hand, worth 2 in the bush" still a thing? Shesty being the real McCoy seems to be, just that......what? Shesty cannot get injured and we would be okay with Hank full time with .......Wall or whomever? Naaah, I think trading Georgiev was NEVER entertained, not UNLESS blown away. Does anyone think Georgiev is more susceptible to injuries than Hank? I don't. Gorton could easily have a Hank/whomever OR a whomever/whomever tandem with a kick ass rest of the squad. Or, pay big bucks elsewhere.
Also, Georgiev "not great to begin with"? Might be true, but not very many can face over 100 shots in consec. games and get away alive and well. Everyone is on the Shesty train (and so am I) , but dont degrade the very decent play of Georgie.
Personally, I think Georgiev is a luxury for us. He has more value for the Rangers, potentially, in trade than he has backing up Igor.
Also, with goalies I wouldn’t feel bad if he went elsewhere and did well. It’s a little different from “skaters”. Let him go and be a starter somewhere.
(Unless he turns out substantially better than Igor. Then I’d feel bad...ish).

I’ve bit my tongue at the first 5 Eli references but f***.

Eli Manning isn’t in the same f***ing galaxy of player Hank was. He’s not even in the best QB in his family. his most famous moments are overthrowing receivers.

This is precisely why people need to be able to separate team achievements from players legacies

His Tweets making me tear up. LOL.
He is very competitive and we saw that - and many found his behavior on the ice a bit childish at times. I did, for sure. But off the ice he’s truly a gentleman. Not one bit of drama. Always giving and a gentleman. I hope he remains with the organization in some capacity whenever he decides to hang up the pads for good.

As long as we’re on the other NY athletes comparison thing...I was thinking today how, hopefully, this Rangers/Hank situation could be similar to when Mattingly left the Yankees...beloved star leaves just as the championship caliber cavalry arrives...

David Quinn is no Joe Torre. I know Torre wasn't great before coming to the Yankees but it's not even close experience wise.

Also that Yankees team had a great mix of vets and youth, was clutch, and Graeme Lloyd was like Joel Kiviranta that run.

It's going to take a few years.

Just watched the career highlights package the NHL put together and the Thank You video from the Rangers. I just read his twitter feed and it hit me.
The NHL YouTube page put up a 7 minute video of highlights from his career, tons of insane saves. The funny part is I don't think there's more than a save or two from before 2013 or so. So they put together a crazy highlight reel and it leaves out 65% percent of his career and it's still an insane compilation.
