The New York Rangers announced that the organization’s 100th year will be celebrated throughout the 2025-26 season and unveiled their Centennial Year logo.

I am an Art Director / Graphic Designer and I appreciate the thought process that has gone into it.

But I feel like this is one of those projects as a designer that I would not want.

The original logo sets from 1926-1947 looked like they were produced in Microsoft paint and the font is an extremely weak serif face.

Being forced to adapt a new commemorative logo from that starting point is... not fun. The idea of the 100 jersey lettering makes sense.

I'd love to see the other comps that were presented. Don't forget that when you look at final logo designs 50% of the time the designers best work is the first version thrown onto the cutting floor because the people who are ultimately approving the final design don't understand what they are looking at. I can't tell you how many times I've spent hours providing awesome logo solutions to clients only for them to ask for something very similar to what they already had or have something horrific in their head they want that has zero aesthetic presence.

The Rangers logo was really only truly standardized recently, believe it or not. Yikes below...

This is toward the upper end of ugly. I really don't like the bubble effect on the white/red parts of the small crest. The shadowing/attempt at creating depth looks strange. It works on the top edge and numbers, but nowhere else. Makes the middle look like a slanted pool table. And weird smudge on the right side of the upper white line that I can't not see now. I know I won't see any of that shit on the ice but /shrug

That smudge is because it was captured from video.
 
We know it's going to be a shoulder patch and center ice thing, but do you think they'll switch things up after many years and have a shield chest logo? Who am I kidding? haha
 
This is an opportunity to do something different with the jerseys overall. The Bruins did something unique with their centennial jerseys and the Rangers should do the same. I think a white and blue updated versions of the 2018 WC jerseys would be it imo since they are based on the original jerseys.
