Seemed like every Rangers chance went in while we faced a brick wall after the first period.

I am lenient with Tavares usually but he has been horrible of late. I'm sure he'll turn it around but we need more from him.

The defense is also hot garbage, even with Muzzin in we need another top 4 guy.

He looked really weak on the puck today. It was noticeable how much he was getting put off balance by the rangers hitting him.

Matty and Marner were weak in their own zone, along with our D coverage.

Marner should be on his own line instead of playing with Matty. Matty, doesn't need to play with Marner to score.

Spezza, Simmonds have been invisible.

All those goals by the Rangers were so weak, and that is mostly on our D zone coverage.

I thought this loss looked good on them. Got their asses kicked physically and the Rangers bullied 4/6 of the d-core. That felt like what you might see in a playoff game, where the other team forechecks you to death.

I'm not blaming the defense for this one, this is 100% on Jack, I don't know What's happened to him but lately he's allowing AT LEAST 1 bad goal every night

Two games a week is killing them, they're fading fast in the second half. Campbell desperately needs some rest.

2nd/3rd D pair were awful. But Sandin, Liljegren, Dermott are all number 6s right now asked to play higher up than capable, Biega an AHLer. We were always going to leak chances tonight.

4th line useless, Spezza and Simmonds are at a point where both need to be rotated in and out to stay fresh. Nothing needs to be said about Clifford.

Matthews goal should've stood, seen worse "kicks" that have counted this season.
Tavares cap hit vs production angers me.

Not trying to defend them but you have to wonder if playing once or twice a week might affect them? Must be touch to gain some momentum

The addition in a top 4 went pretty bad for both of them, but Sandin was much worse.
They are ready for 3rd pair minutes but nothing more yet

I don't think a major upgrade is needed on D, but Dubas needs to grab a vet who can play a physical game. 4th lines shouldn't be able to hem you in your zone. The mental mistakes by the kids(Sandin and Liljegren) and an AHLer in Biega cost the team tonight.

Really the issue with the kicking motion rule is it is yet another instance in the game where the call is subjective. Here's a solution, if the blade leaves the ice=kick, if it doesn't= goal allowed.

The teams identity must be on the backend. I get that they need to develop their young D Men, but, they need to do so slowly. Furthermore, from top to bottom they need to be solid and physical.

Solidify the top four, they have the assets and a bit of Cap Space now. To me, this game was always going to be tough to win on the road without their shutdown pairing, no matter how inconsistent they have been.

Muzzin has 63% defensive zone starts. There is a reason he had the tough assignments.

I don't like Matthews and Marner together. The good, physical, hard battling Matthews always turns into the guy doing Marner impressions playing that give and go perimeter game.

mentioned in the other thread, you can see the difference between this goal and Matthews goal. Matthews kicks forward and his whole foot moves. Tierney, still holds his pivot while redirecting the shot, his foot barely moves compared to Matthews. It’s not even an equal comparison. There is a distinct kicking motion with the Matthews one. Let’s not make excuses

I'm sorry, with complete honesty, I just don't see it at all. Tierney literally swings his leg towards the puck and his skate leaves the ice. Zero chance that puck would've gone towards the net had Tierney not swung at it.

Just an awful showing the past 5 games. This team needs another defenseman and it needs to stop playing Campbell so much. Don't care if Mrazek has been shit so far, you signed him to a multi-year deal. You have to at least try otherwise he's a waste of cap space and money.

Other than that I'm not too worried, every season has it's ups and downs though I do believe we need to add a top 4 Dman if we hope to do anything in the playoffs.

once playoffs come around they need to call up Robertson or Steeves and play them on the fourth line

Disagree that we don't need a significant upgrade for Justin Holl. In the playoffs you lean on 4 guys to play major minutes and you shelter your bottom pairing. No chance I want a Muzzin / Holl pairing on the ice for an extra 6 minutes per night than they already are.
