Random Trivia Part II

Easy to look up, so please resist the urge.

All-time leading scoring of players that are both eligble, and NOT in, the HHOF.

Other guesses: Harry Cameron, Georges "Buck" Boucher. I don't think Red Kelly did it - the O6 was too low scoring.

I'm assuming this is NHL only?

Yes. NHL regular season games only.

Sprague Cleghorn (1921-22) and Babe Pratt (1943-44) managed to have more points than regular season games played once in their NHL careers. Frank Boucher's older brother Georges managed to do it twice, in 1921-22 and 1923-24. Harry Cameron - the top paid player in the NHL at the time of his heyday - had more points than games played three times (1917-18, 1920-21 and 1921-22), and - in 1918-19 - had 14 points in 14 games. He was already a/the top player when the NHL began in 1917-18.

Hey, where did you see that Cameron was the top paid player in the NHL? A little while back, I spent a long time looking for information on how highly regarded Cameron was in his time. I found this source, which said that Cameron was the highest paid player on Toronto's 1918 Cup winning team, but not the highest paid in the league: http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...ItRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=6WgDAAAAIBAJ&pg=1524,1690692.

I re-checked my source, and - apparently - some exaggeration was included in my comment about Harry Cameron. Here's what was said about him in Total NHL: "The 1914 Toronto Blueshirts featured goaltender Harry Holmes and defenseman Harry Cameron, who also played on the 1918 championship team. Why not? They were well paid for their efforts. By 1918, Holmes was earning $700 per season, Cameron $900." (Page 353)

That quotation - in bouncing around my cranium - came to mean that he was the top paid player in the NHL. Sorry about that.

Ahhh, exactly what the newspaper article I found said. Would not be surprised if Total NHL used it as their primary source. I should really get that book already.

If you want; it's not really necessary, I assume that someone who would take the time to use your comment as a source of information would probably read the conversation that follows.

If - in leaving my comment as it was posted originally - I can convince one person to check his/her sources of information before providing facts and/or figures (as I should have done), I'll willingly wear some egg. If I can convince visitors to HOH to purchase Total NHL I'll really be happy. It is a book every hockey fan should read; it's chock-full of facts and figures.

This picture is from 1980. Can anyone name the three ex-players in it?

These are probably easy, but I'd like to see these players' names listed anyway as what they accomplished was quite impressive. Some of the answers might surprise some.
(TDMM, I know you know the answers to all of them, so if you know don't make a guess.;))

1. Which player was the best scoring defenceman in the 2002 AND 2006 Olympics, where all teams had their best players?

2a. Which player was the best socring defenceman in the 1980 AND 1984 (by huge margin) and 1988 (by fairly large margin).
2b. Which other player finished top-4 in scoring among defencemen during those tournaments?

3. Finally for defencemen, which player was the best scoring defenceman in the 1992 Olympic tournament, at age 40, two years after having retired from a long NHL career?

4. Which player (forward) was the best scorer in the 2002 Olympics? (He also probably more than 10 times was the best scorer on his NHL team.)

5. Which player (forward) was the best scorer in the 2010 Olympics? (I've several times tried to point out how much better win percentage his several NHL teams had when he played compared to the many games he missed while being injured.)

6. Which player (forward) finished 4th in scoring in the 1992 Olympics, and then was the best scorer in 1998 AND 2006 where all teams had their best player?

I can't answer the other ones, but I know this is Pavol Demitra.

Trahsers : Kovalchuk goals... Hossa points ?

4. Sundin
5. Hossa
6. Selanne

Yes, almost completely correct. :)
1. Lidstrom best scorer among defencemen on two best-players-Olympics.
2. Fetisov best scorer among defencemen on three not-all-best-players-Olympics.
3. Salming, aged 40, best scorer among defencemen in 1992 (not 1994 as I seem to have written).
4. Sundin best scorer despite playing fewer games than most other top scorers. He also have multiple first All Star Team nominations in best-players-tournaments.
6. Selanne, two time scoring champion in best-players Olympics.

5. Yes, Pavol Demitra best scorer in 2010. Demitra, a player who I believe might not get as much credit as he would have deserved for helping making his teams better.
