Looking around at Tampa's roster, it seems like the two biggest needs they have are a top-6 RW and a 3rd pair LD. They've been in talks with Buffalo about Tuch, but I'm skeptical they have the pieces Buffalo is looking for with Tuch. But the Penguins are likely interested in the pure futures that Tampa could offer, and it seems that Rakell would be a good secondary option if Tuch doesn't work out.

I think the basis of the deal would be Rakell and Grzelcyk at 50% for Perbix and futures, since I believe the Lightning need to include Perbix to be cap compliant (feel free to correct me if that's wrong). Would Tampa be interested in this kind of package and what value of futures would they be willing to do here? My expectation in value would be Rakell for a 2026 1st and a decent prospect and Grzelcyk at 50% for a 3rd.

Rakell has too many years left for a 31 y/o for JBB to be interested without retention @5 mil IMO.

Rakell is on pace for like 40 goals and 70 points this year. Really bizarre to say that the Lightning would want retention on him when he has 3 years left at $5 million. His contract expires after his age 34 season.

The Lightning just gave Guentzel a 7 year, $9 million AAV deal last off-season and he's like a year and a half younger than Rakell.

The Lightning just gave Guentzel a 7 year, $8 million AAV deal last off-season and he's like a year and a half younger than Rakell.
He is playing with Sid so that helps. He hadn't broken 30 goals in the last 7 seasons. If he were 28 I could see it but 31 with 3 years left I am guessing JBB looks elsewhere. That said, I like the guy.

If it was 2023 with a flat cap, this would be a valid point. I think it ignores too much about the league in 2025 and the future rise of the salary cap.

Rakell is the exact type of player JBB should be targeting. With the cap going up in the next three years, you're getting a very good quality top 6 RW with what will be a value contract. You can then use other cap space to fill out the roster and bolster depth.
