How is Montreal not interested in this?

Because we would be selling extremely low on the guy who has been carrying our D for like 3 years. He's playing much better than he was under DD and if we can't get good value for him now then we can wait to move him until we do.

1. We don't need Khudobin.
2. I'm prepared to hear about Campbell, but on the surface not excited.
3. If we're retaining 50% of Radulov's cap hit I want more than a 4th and a middling prospect to do it.
4. I think Petry is worth more than a 2nd and a player we don't need.

We're all aware that Hughes is willing to trade Petry to facilitate his family situation, but he's under no pressure to do so. I don't see this offer as anything more than a last resort.

Khudobin is obviously a cap dump. Campbell is a pretty good prospect and born in Montreal. I would be happy to get him + a 2nd for players we dont need (i.e. Petry)

Who cares about Radulov's cap hit? He's a UFA

Petry isn't worth much with his play this season + age + contract. You take what you can and run

Given his age, contract and play this season, we're not getting more than a 2nd + a solid prospect (unless we are taking on a bunch of bad long term contracts in return, but that's another story)

It's not about the impact of Radulov's cap hit on Montreal, it's about helping another club. That help - for two players - is worth something.

Barring an injury that threatens a career, you don't typically see play fall off a cliff like that. Petry's had a tough year, but I firmly believe it's between the ears. He's been separated from his family for much of two years. That takes a toll. He's been better since the coaching change, like most of the team. Sort that out, and he'll revert to the the form he's shown for almost his entire time in Montreal. Montreal's right side depth is poor. Even play below the cap hit is better than anyone in the system at the moment. Unless Hughes knows that he's got Letang in the sumer, there's no incentive to give Petry away. That's what this trade amounts to.

I'm not against the idea of parting ways with Petry (because it would give us cap flexibility and also Petry would return in the US) but the picks must be upgraded.

Dallas 1st is a must

Good god no. Maybe a 2nd, but regardless you won’t find many Star Fans that want Petry. Nothing against, but age and term is not what we should be looking for

Nill hasn’t traded a first once, and I don’t see him traded one for Petry lol

He's not in his prime anymore but he still really solid (he was a top 15 d-man in the league last year and found his mojo back since Ducharme was canned) and as such, we need the assets to make this palatable for us (especially since we're taking cap and a plug back)

I get why you wouldn't want to trade the 1st, but even with the 1st, I still the Habs lose in this trade
