Can't really get much out of the head-to-heads. One was close, two weren't. Kaprizov only played 1 game (the close one) and Eriksson Ek only played 1 game, and the 1 game each played were not with each other.

On their side, Eichel missed one and Pietrangelo missed one. Hertl all three I think.

We are going to get center diffed so bad.

Eichel-Hertl-Roy-Karlsson

Vs

Rossi-Eriksson Ek-Gaudreau-Hartman

lol

That center matchup use to look a lot worse.

I have about zero expectations so anything better then 4 to 1 would be fun, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Really gotta hope Kap does some healing in the next 4 days. He looks really bad. Also wouldn’t hurt if Middleton and Rossi and Faber got back to closer to normal

Think we will run Kap-Ek-Boldy line? I thought they were a tad underwhelming last two games. I like the Mojo-Freddy-Zucc line and the BEEF line, but to run both of those, you would have Kaprizov left with Rossi & Hartman/Nyquist.

Will he even play?
I think he will. If Faber is any example, Hynes might limit him to only 12 minutes and might not play him Game 1. But after that first loss where we will get expected that lifeless Wild game, Buium would be thrown in.

EDIT: I get some ppl don't like Hynes but if anything, hes willing to try new things. Maybe not to the extent some prefer but this isn't Evason

I like how you use Evason playing Faber as an example for why Buium will play, then take a shot at Evason for not trying new things.

I'll quote myself:

No sensible person is taking the Wild in this one. But it's the playoffs. Hill is solid but Gus can be great and I might take a 45 year old Fleury over Samsonov. Wild D with Buium is all of a sudden a very mobile unit capable of producing counterstrike offense. Eriksson-Ek has been dominant since returning, certainly the type of player who can will a victory. As others have noted, Kaprizov isn't fully back but maybe in a few days he will be, making him the best player in the series. Depth for depth favors Vegas, as does experience. But given how much Vegas relies on Dorofeyev, the scoring is not as spread as it could be. As ever, a tight game 1 could produce enough belief in the Wild to make it a series. A tightly-called game 1 that leads to, say, five power plays for Vegas, means a 5 game series. And Vegas could easily win another Cup.

It's more of ... Hynes is obviously more flexible than Evason (that was his biggest strength and weakness, great systems guy but didn't adjust).

Now Hynes is more flexible, for better or worse (Rossi playing 1st in one game, then moving him down to 3rd, Foligno moving up and down, changing lines in-game etc.).

I think Buium is more talented than Faber, I think Buium is something we are missing, and I think Hynes is more flexible than Evason (and Evason played Faber). Ergo... all the pieces are set for Buium to play. Now probably not Game 1 (to the gripe of many of you), but after the 1st loss, he'll come in to play 12 minutes (also to the annoyance of many of you). But I'll be 100% surprise he doesn't play 1 game, expecting 2 at least.

I agree that Hynes is more flexible and generally speaking I think he is good at coaching. I’ve been plenty willing to defend his decisions.

If he doesn’t play Buium in favor of an injured Middleton or Merrill, that’s crossing a line for me.

My dumb brain is starting to talk itself into thinking we have a chance in this thing. Wild in 7

I still don't really believe that they're going to go with a 5 forward power play. That's a thing that can lose a game by itself if it goes bad.

I think Buium plays game 1, and runs the power play. They just need to get him a few practices with the group.

That is all I'm saying ... I expect Buium to be in 2 games (not Game 1) and I would also be offended if he didn't. I expect it and think it will happen. Which is why I would offended if it didn't.

I’m testing a theory. VGK in 4.
I see.

In that case, Kap gets hurt, Eichel stays totally healthy, lack of speed and special teams ability actually improve the team and Buium benefits more from watching than the team does from having an actual PPQB/OFD

Merrill is gonna score 8 points this series
