Stauffer said he was close on Friday

I heard the opposite, that he’s not close to playing games in an answer to a question he had from a listener on why he isn’t going to Bako for some warm up games like Landeskog. He wasn’t game ready yet and wouldn’t be for a while. Maybe Stauffer was thinking about his pizza order?

I’d be surprised if we aren’t in on Marner this offseason (assuming he hits free agency). Judging by the Oilers interest in Rantanen near the deadline, it looks like management wants to add another star type of player to our top 6.

Definitely true. Wasn't much skill after Dineen and Carrick on the back end.

I get where you're coming from, the games are 10:30 here so I get it, but the Oilers play in the Pacific division and are a MT team so all Oilers playoff games are going to be late in the first 2 rounds at least. I don't know, it's Oilers playoff hockey so it'll always peak my interest sleep be damned.

I think this is what they want to do as well. I also think we are a near perfect fit for Marner, as he would be like the 4th option, and he is surprisingly well rounded being able to PK on top of the offense. Even if our goaltending fails us, I don't see a Saros/Swayman type move but rather run with a different cheap option. Something like Soderblom and UFA Jake Allen, and like you said to put the cap towards some big name at forward. A move like that probably takes us out of being able to sign Bouchard long term and looking at another bridge.

We have 83m committed next year. Say by some stroke of luck you trade Kane, Arvidsson and Henrique without taking anything back and say that 12.125 in cap goes to Marner, you're left with ~10m in capspace and 9F, 5D signed, while needing to sign your top pairing RD. Only way it works is if Bouchard is willing to go like 6m for a year to wait for the cap jump and more to come off the books..

If we end up losing Bouchard to an offersheet too, so help me god...

I agree. Walman is a good number 5 and an ok top 4, but people were def overrating him because he was shiny and new.

Too many turnovers defensively. He probably is a #4, but on a strong blueline he would flourish as a #5
