What would it take to bring Ryan to New York @50 percent retained?
retaining 4x4m in cap hit and real money?
i don't think the nyr would like the answer. @4m he is a value contract and to make the retention worthwile for them, they would ask for something like laf +.

Not a good fit

we are looking to move Strome b'c now is fine but we can't afford him long term going forward need cap room for Fox, LaF, Kakko extensions
plus rookie Barron is looking good.

Poile doesn't do retention. Since we have zero current or future issues with our cap, it would take something worth giving up our top center for to get us listening (underachiever though he may be).

considering he’s actually earning his money as of now I’d say a good bit

6 games erase the last 2 season do they? 3 years left at 8.5 for a player who will be 30 before next season starts. Even at 4.25 million his trade value is minimal. The fact Nashville won't retain 50% for the next 3 years means he's stuck in Tennessee.

Technically it's 8 per. We are fine with him being stuck here as while he may be underperforming there are certain aspects of his game we can't replace atm.

Not the guy I'd want to target for a trade.

Had his two outlier seasons in years 3 and 4 of his career, settled into a high 50's low 60's point player that seemed to have regressed over the last 2 years.

I will say this for him, when he gets in the playoffs, he produces.

7 times hes been in the playoffs, 5 times hes a point a game guy or better.

His ppg goes up in the postseason

There is value in that

The last two years coincided with Arvidsson being crap and Forsberg missing a combined 30 games both years. He won't put up points if his line mates suck.

He's not really the center NYR should be going after, and even with 50% retained, he's not the player Rangers should be throwing a ton of assets away for. We've done the "center who needs good linemates", now we'd like to try the center who doesn't need good line-mates to have a good game.

That’s not Johanson. Jo in his best seasons had weak supporting cast in Columbus. He’s a gifted playmaker with very good 2 way ability who steps it up in the playoffs. Imo he’s a 7 million dollar player. I value him similarly with E Kane and Brayden Schenn more so then Kevin Hayes. He’s about a million from market value. A goal scorer like Laine “would be ideal” but not necessary.

nope but since he’s earning his keep, we don’t need the capspace, and we don’t have a replacement 1C, there’s zero need to trade him. So yeh it would take a lot for Nashville to eat half his salary
