I'm so amused the Finnish hockey journalists are driving the point that Sweden is Gladstone Gander, when Finland is Donald Duck. I don't know, I just think it's such a funny narrative that captures the soul of Finnish hockey.

This Gladstone Gander stuff has gone too far. I can understand it as a joke, but is Mertaranta actually selling the idea that the Swedes are ahead by one goal because of luck? That 4-3 goal was a helluva shot, nothing to do with luck (unlike the second Finnish goal). I get it that he's a homer, but how stupid you have to be to genuinely believe that the Swedes are just lucky from one year to another?

No this it isn t luck! We must see the complete developmet incl. charakter. When the swedes has every WHC Top-NHLer in this squad,it is a big advantage.

Bit annoyed with Sweden, just dumped the puck out and let the forward do all the work.
The defense supposed to be the best, but turned out to be the worst.

We did the same last Olympics. Gathered the best collection of defenders in the whole world, and then played a system that minimized their role. With that said, some of our leading defenders has been making some awful plays this game.

I hate his lines and hate his ice management. I think Sweden is winning on individual efforts alone and there is nothing about the system that is producing the success Sweden is seeing here.

Lankinen is not a great goalie.

Neither is Olkinuora. But this still isn't on the goalie. First was a powerplay goal, second kicked in by Jokiharju, 3rd a perfect snipe by Petterson and on the 4th Lankinen was screened by 3 team mates and one Swede. Now tell me again how is this on the goalie?

Hence the logical choice would have been to have our best goalie be in the goal but I guess that's not so obvious to some, like the coaching staff. Olkinuora also has 2 assists, more than Marko Anttila with less than half the ice time.

Well, for every poorly called lucky goal, there is a goal where the puck takes 7 deflections and goes in slow-mo off the ref’s shirt into a players skate and bounces over the goalies pad into the goal..

Well Mertaranta is just bad example as he let his bias dominate his commenting. Very annoying. But i think most of us (Finns) are smart enough to realize it is never about luck. Call it little brother - big brother jealousy, if you will
