I'm so amused the Finnish hockey journalists are driving the point that Sweden is Gladstone Gander, when Finland is Donald Duck. I don't know, I just think it's such a funny narrative that captures the soul of Finnish hockey. :)
Clowns?

This Gladstone Gander stuff has gone too far. I can understand it as a joke, but is Mertaranta actually selling the idea that the Swedes are ahead by one goal because of luck? That 4-3 goal was a helluva shot, nothing to do with luck (unlike the second Finnish goal). I get it that he's a homer, but how stupid you have to be to genuinely believe that the Swedes are just lucky from one year to another?
No this it isn t luck! We must see the complete developmet incl. charakter. When the swedes has every WHC Top-NHLer in this squad,it is a big advantage.

Bit annoyed with Sweden, just dumped the puck out and let the forward do all the work.
The defense supposed to be the best, but turned out to be the worst.
We did the same last Olympics. Gathered the best collection of defenders in the whole world, and then played a system that minimized their role. With that said, some of our leading defenders has been making some awful plays this game.

I really wonder what this swedish team could have done if they actually had some sort of coherent plan on how to win a game.
Just throwing great individual players on the ice and hope they score faster than the opponent won't work against russia.
Sure didn't in the group game. That second period is maybe the worst I've ever seen Sweden get dominated in a game.

I can take it as a joke, but many Finns are genuinely convinced that the Swedes are just plain lucky. No wonder after 30 years of indoctrination on the subject, hearing this every year from the likes of Mertaranta.

Well, of course journalists are mediocre clowns that protect mediocrity, but I can still envision a generic Finnish hockey player like Donald Duck. Energetic, easy to enrage and never giving up once he's pissed off.

That's nothing when it comes to driving ridiculous, outlandish narratives. You're lucky it's your sports journalists. Your sports journalists are our "normal" journalists. I have dark humour.

Gronberg is so frustrating to watch.

I hate his lines and hate his ice management. I think Sweden is winning on individual efforts alone and there is nothing about the system that is producing the success Sweden is seeing here.

That's where the term Hannu Hanhet comes from, Finns see themselves as the one getting their teeth kicked in all the time.

Popovic is terrible too, seems like he has put as much effort into the defense as a coach does for an All-Star game.

Some people are really blaming Lankinen on those goals?
Goalies are allowed to save shots they can't be blamed on as well. Shocking, I know.

You could, of course, consider allowing 4 goals in 14 shots to be a great display of goaltending.

If anything should be blamed it's the defense.

Veini says hi.
Hence the logical choice would have been to have our best goalie be in the goal but I guess that's not so obvious to some, like the coaching staff. Olkinuora also has 2 assists, more than Marko Anttila with less than half the ice time.

Well Mertaranta is just bad example as he let his bias dominate his commenting. Very annoying. But i think most of us (Finns) are smart enough to realize it is never about luck. Call it little brother - big brother jealousy, if you will :D
