Told you my fellow Finns that USA would be the easier opponent for Finland between the states and Russia. Been watching this tournie for too long to know that USA underachieves in this tournament.

I wonder why tho?

Just caught last period and obviously taking penalties was a huge factor in this one...they also seemed to try complicated passes when not needed...especially Gaudreau

I don't know how, but somehow our team almost always finds it's way to the medal games. It's amazing.

Wow, that American performance was truly pathetic. Congrats to the Finnish team on an excellently executed game, though. Not often a team can lose 1-5 to France and still be top four, haha.

Well that was disappointing.
But give credit to Finland, they played a good defensive game. I don't know why people think this is not a good way to play hockey anymore, it wins.

Well, it's not that it's not good, but somewhat ugly to watch more often then not.
It's what Germany has to do if they want to have at least a half decent evening, but unfortunately Germany's defence ist nowhere near as good as the Finnsish and Canada is not USA :help:

This is just my subjective opinion. But the big guns in USA seemed to grossly underestimate Finland and just played nice and cute in due or die game. They tried pulling off stuff that you could possibly try against Slovenia in meaningless preliminary round. Finland had played more poorly than they usually do, lost to France in a bashing manner and barely beat out other games. Maybe they just thought that this would be a cake walk and after that mentality sets in it's hard to get rid of.

God damn it. I must reconsider and digest this result now and all that's been said during this cup run...

lol Eichel ... wow.

Eichel is of course very talented. But - he is the absolutely most overrated young top player in the NHL (after Puljujärvi, whom is absolutely horrible and absolutely overrated). He has been pretty meh almost every time I have seen him play for the USA. Good young talent for sure, but nowhere near the best class of Laine or Matthews or let alone McDavid, whom are all younger than he is.

I understand Eichel caused huge amount of hype with his play in the junior hockey, but I think some Americans are still a bit stuck with the domination he showed against much weaker players. He will definitely be a star player, but I still can't really see him become one of the absolute best players in future hockey. There is just something he seems to lack. Is it intensity or the real top class hockey IQ? I'm not sure, but it definitely seems to me like that.

Marjamäki for sure saved his job with continuing with his anti-hockey. I for sure don't like him or his play style, but I have to congratulate him and the team for a great result. With this team getting to the top 4 is for sure a respectable achievement.

Americans stopped forechecking hard vs Russia after the 1st and were lucky with PP goals and all mistakes Russia did. Finns didn't make mistakes, and USA Team couldn't do anything. Probably bad shape or too young.

Competition is too tight for them. European teams play better on the big ice and have players that have years of experience in this tournie. Looking at Finland's roster this year, not so great but 6 players from the team that won gold in 2011. Lots of this guys come back to play year after year. Seems to me like USA gets lots of fresh, inexperienced guys year after year and that hurts them. Either way, with their NHL talent and top talent in general, this should have at least 10 gold medals in the history of this tournament. Tough loss for USA who did great in the round robin. But I'm not surprised they lost.

But Finland have a "C-Team" on Tournament! With a C-Team you can t playing magic.

Eichel never played junior. The whole team lacked intensity and it looked like they went out the night before instead of prepping. Seems like they just wanted to go home.

Eichel scored almost a point per game while not even 100% this season. There's nothing about junior hockey there.

I really had no expectations for this game. So it's even sweeter now. Great job today, we totally disarmed the Americans. And then they lost their cool.

On to the semis.

Oh trust me. A lot of people think it's not good hockey, not just unwatchable. They think it's "old school". The new buzz terms now and days is "speed and skill", the "speed" part mostly being the issue. Those people don't understand it's more than one way to play this game.

As stifled and owned as the Americans were, it's very clear the Finns is a tough team to beat when they get the first goal. If they have to chase a lead, they suck, with some hope from their PP. They suck because really, that lineup isn't that strong and they can't carry a game.

If it's one thing Finnish players know how to do, it's to play a systematical, smothering defense. That trap is tight and very well executed. As much as I hate it as a hockey fan, as a tactical fan it's thumbs up.

Alright, now Sweden needs to win for the dream game. I rather watch FIN-SWE than FIN-SUI, even though it will be tougher.

you have to consider the American arrogance. Reading all the press clippings of how they were the class of the tournament.
Anyone, anyone, anyone of the top 6 hockey nations can outright win on any day.
You want to get cute and look for the cross ice backdoor play all game, you get what they got today.
They are young and learned a lesson today. A power to be recognized. For sure. But not today.
