Gonna be a rough game. No way our speed is enough.

Best of one game, anything can happen. Our goalie is hot (for once) - the Americans attack and press overenthusiastically and we get effective turnovers and their goalie has an off day, so who knows... But it will definitely be the issue how we handle the high tempo press in our own end and how effectively we can prevent disastrous puck losses in our attack (as some of our defenders are really, really slow...)

Yikes. If the Finns happened to advance from this outing it would be me, my HFBoards ego and name, which would take the heaviest toll of them all. So, I dunno what to think abut this game but that it will most likely and luckily be a formality, a cake walk for the grande American team. God, I love their roster. Clayton Keller and Johnny Hockey are my absolute all time favs. Well, I dunno about "alltime" but current.

The Finns won't stand a chance but hey, that's life. No reason to be - mad.

I think USA will win 7-1, with 5 goals in the first period. Finnish "hand brake hockey" or "snail hockey" will be in real trouble vs USA forechecking and will essentially never be able to exit the zone in a controlled manner. It'll only be that close because USA will start saving energy for the next match starting in the second period.

Agreed. Though depending on special teams the score might be close with a small change for a Finnish upset over the favourites.

Holding out for a miracle.

2-1 Finland.

Pillu with all three goals :sarcasm:

Pillu cannot score to save his life but once in a while he manages to bag a nifty one just to remind us all of the great exception that proves the general rule.

If you wanna get something out of this clash though go and back the score: FIN 3 - 8 USA

Finns has been terrible in this tournament but they usually step up when knockout stage starts. Young US team have to be their best if they want beat Finland today. USA should win today but someway Finns are always tough opponent for them.

Säteri starting for Finland.

Jaakola 7th defender and Kukkonen takes his place. M. Aaltonen 13th forward. Järvinen scratched.

I think I shouldn't say this but.. Coach staff has actually made the right choises I think. Jaakola was horribad, Kukkonen was great. Miro Aaltonen does nothing, Järvinen can't work against fast teams like Canada and USA, he wasn't as bad in earlier games, but suffered in Canada game.

I really want Finland to win and I say this as a Swede.

Yes, I'm healthy.

No, I'm not drunk (yet).

FIN lineup.

Veli-Matti Savinainen - Valtteri Filppula - Mikko Rantanen

Miro Aaltonen

Atte Ohtamaa - Julius Honka

In last 5 Years the Finns lost some matches vs US. This WC Finland is n t a opponent but unfortunately a good sparring partner for US.

YES boys, Aaltonen in. Pulju in.

Right call, this is a gamble I think. If they don't pan out, they can still do something, not like there are any one else who can be that much better.

If they're on fire, they raise our chances more than other options. And this is probably what we count on now. Wishing for National Artist to find the spark and Pulju gotta have a good game soon, by chance. No more posts and crossbars. Hope he's coming in the game like in 3rd perioid when he debuted.

It is likely that torture will end today, We(finns) won't see anymore terrible games. I wish that we would have better team to the Olympic games.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it - that Finland's lineup is a total Hail Mary.

Don't get me wrong, it's something that had to be done. But it's still not a good sign when the coach goes back to drawing board right at the eve of the most important game of the season.

I think Finns made wrong goalie choice.

Ya could be, but Korpisalo wasn't performing neither. Even the goalie choise is basically roulette. The pelican has hit the turbine in this tournament, so to speak.

Referees:
GOUIN Oliver
JERABEK Antonin

So, a Canadian ref and a Czech ref.
Almost certainly their performance will be heavily discussed here ;)

I'm just hoping the U.S. puts forth a workman-like effort and respect their opponent. They have done a lot of good things so far and have the elements to win this game. I don't expect the Finns to go down without a fight though.
