Quarter Final Seeding Possibilities as of Sat AM

Group B:
Easy.

Winner of USA/CAN = 1st
Loser of USA/CAN = 2nd
Winner of SLK/RUS = 3rd
Loser of SLK/RUS = 4th

Group A:
More difficult.

Sweden = 1st.
Denmark: Currently 2nd, and will fall one seed for each win of either CZE or SUI
Czech Republic: Currently 3rd. With Reg Win, move to 2nd. With OT win, move to 2nd unless SUI win, but in Reg. With a OT Loss, cannot be 2nd, and drop to 4th if the SUI win. With Reg Loss, drop to 4th if SUI at least go to OT.
Switzerland: Currently 4th. With a win, move at least to 3rd, passing DEN. Pass CZE if they do better than CZE by 1 pt in today's games.

If Russia beats Slovakia we could have 4 very unbalanced 1/4 finals.
Canada-Czech 6-0
Usa-Swiss 4-0
Russia-Denmark 4-0
Sweden-Slovakia 6-0

Great Format isn't it? The tournament starts in the 1/2's.

Swiss are better than you give them credit for, and so are the Danes, I suppose.

This is what I have been saying on other posts but some people really like it when a bottom team knocks off a contender
It is sport after all but what it does is kill the semi finals
The four teams that should make it are by far the best teams here
Let's home they make it

Upsets are what will grow the game in denmark and the lower countries.

Nobody will look at the news the next day as a kid and say i want to be a part of that if they lose 8-0. But they will if they some how manage to win.

In reality how many big upsets has there been in the last 20-25 years in the World Juniors? Not many like really not many. The game isn't growing it's actually declining in countries like Germany Belarus CzechRepublic Slovakia even Russia and or stagnating in countries like Swizterland USA. There's also a major lack of superstars coming from Europe like there was in the early 90's when you literally had at the same time coming in Bure Fedorov Mogilny Sundin Naslund Forsberg Selanne Jagr Bondra and many others...And let's not even talk about the dump and chase game and the trap and all that...

Ok? Ehlers is the best prospect ever from Denmark. Draisaitl is the best prospect ever from Germany. Josi is the best player ever from Switzerland. Sweden has its best depth ever, with possibly 3 defenders in the top 10 in the world (Karlsson, OEL, Hedman). Finland had 2 of the top 3 pics in the draft last year. Czech Republic just won Ivan Hlinka. Russia has been picking it up the last couple of years, producing Kucherov, Kuznetsov, Panarin and Tarasenko among other elite players. I could go on and on about the progress.

As if it matters whether Canada wins 8-1 or 8-0.

Mostly for the fact that the Swiss have been one of Canada's weaknesses in the past and they have a player that's good enough to be a first overall pick on their team who could potentially take over a game and cause havoc for our defenders.. Anything could happen.

Russia vs. Denmark at 1:00 in Toronto
Sweden vs. Slovakia at 3:30 in Montréal
USA vs. Switzerland at 5:30 in Toronto
Canada vs. Czech Rep. at 8:00 in Montréal

Is it correct that the winner of SWE-SVK will play the winner of CAN-CZE, and the winners of USA-SUI and RUS-DEN will play each other?

Interesting to note, all of the QF games are rematches from the pre-tournament games where they all ended in 1 goal games except Canada/Czech Republic. While none of the 8 potential SF matchups were pre-tournament games

WJC Quarterfinals

1. Denmark vs Russia
2. Sweden vs Slovakia
3. USA vs Switzerland
4. Canada vs Czech Republic

Semifinals

W1 vs W3
W2 vs W4

I'm picking Russia, Sweden, USA and Canada. What is everybody's thought and what do you think will happen in these games. If the favourites do indeed win, the semifinal matchups would be USA/Russia and Canada/Sweden which would be insane
