Raddysh has played a grand total of 0 NHL games...

The Rangers only have 7 D who have seen NHL time. They’ll need at least one more D than that on their 28 skater roster. Raddysh has arguably been the best D in Hartford. I don’t think anyone is suggesting dressing him as part of a healthy Rangers roster, but he’s probably the most deserving guy to be the 8th D.

You need extra defensemen in the playoffs. I’d be surprised if they don’t take at least nine. Maybe ten.

Which means 1 or 2 of Ebert, Rykov and LoVerde in addition to Raddysh.

Edit: Not LoVerde, because he’s not on an NHL contract. It could be Reunanen though.

I am really hoping we will see more of this:

I believe Skjei was responsible for at least 1 goal against in every game since the trade.

I had the urge to share my thoughts on this so here it goes...

Hockey aside, I hope everyone is doing well and making it through the COVID-19 pandemic. I live on Long Island and personally know 3 people that got infected. Fortunately, they all recovered and are doing just fine now but I can't help but to stop and pray for everyone else that was affected by this in one way or another.

We all know that our state of New York got rocked hard by this and was pegged as the epicenter. Now in wake of hearing about a proposed plan to bring back hockey, I can't help but to feel both excited and dare I say a little proud to be a fan of the team that's going to represent the region of our country that suffered the greatest blow from this disaster. New York.

Getting back to the hockey aspect - I was looking up some stats and noticed that if the proposed plan does go through, our record against the Hurricanes since 2011 is 25 wins and 5 losses... that is of course, when we had a certain player starting for us... that's right, it's Henrik Lundqvist.

Now I know we are somewhat blessed at the moment in having three capable goaltenders and it may very well be a head scratcher when you consider the arguments to play one over the other two but let me just say this.

We all know that Henrik Lundqvist is in the tail end of his career. We all are very familiar with everything that he's done for us and how badly he still longs for that elusive Stanley Cup victory as a New York Ranger. Given the unexpected circumstances in this entire season and calendar year, I'm really hoping that Quinn sort of just throws caution into the wind and says "the heck with it, I'm going to start with Henrik for at least one game and see if we can catch lightning in a bottle. I sure bet he's dying for one more good run at this. I'm going to give it to him."

Now I know a lot of you, most of whom are much more knowledgable about hockey than I will ever be, will raise Shesty and Georgiev stats and silence my prayer for Henrik to play for us, but at least humor me for a second and just think about what a great story this year could be.

The New York Rangers, still standing strong while representing the New York faithful amidst all of the trials that we had to endure. Henrik Lundqvist, one of the most brilliant goaltenders in the history of the game, was able to lead his Rangers to a Stanley Cup, in perhaps his last opportunity. He had his moment of realization, caught magic in a bottle and showed the rest of the league and the world what it means to be a New York Ranger, even in trying times that extend beyond the game.

I hope you all are safe and you guys are continuing to be well to one another. Let's go Rangers...

The entire original post should be edited or removed. There is so much that is wrong with it. Don't rush to make a thread if you don't actually understand what is going on (and then are too lazy to even try to understand and edit it properly)

Good to see this thread. Heard about the phase 2 structure for a couple of weeks, good to see the game making a return.

This is a favorable match-up for the Rangers. Canes are talented, but something is off with the team. They don't have last year's chemistry, but they are deep and have enough of a core to be a dangerous 4 line and 3 defense pair team. I think what works in the Rangers favor is that the Canes have high expectations, without a team of high performers. IMO they have a lot of guys (including the Ranger byproduct Brady Skjei) that are not guys that I would bet on to be outright winners.

Aho is the real deal. Legit #1 center. Tuevo is a point producer. Staal is a shutdown force. Slavin is a monster. Hamilton is a trade off at times, but a very dangerous player. Pesce is a reliable player. Svech is forming into a real top line threat. The rest of the line-up has a lot of question marks. Thought a lot of Trochek a couple of years ago, but less so now. Game is not the same post injury. Their D is turnover prone. They have some really good checkers. Morgan Geekie will be a player for them, and Necas over Lias is already hurting but I think they have a lot of ancillary guys that have to play well, and they haven't played well.

This is still a 1 line team, with Hamilton providing offense from the back-end.

If you can contain that top line, you can beat them.

Would like to make a note from the OP....

The early June training camp is voluntary. The Formal training camp will be no earlier than the first half of July.

I have to say, I don't get this time table.

*So its 5 weeks, before teams formally start to train again? As I understand it -- at least -- in NYC, teams are allowed to start training-camp today. Why wait 5 weeks?

Soccer in Europe is continental wide starting to play games mid June. Premier League and so forth. Bundesliga started mid May, but Germany aren't the best compareable to US. In Spain, La Liga will start to play on 8 June. Premier League is aiming at 19 June. None of these leagues are playing in selected locations etc, all teams play in their home arenas.

*I hope they don't select locations anytime soon -- to play in late July lol. They seem to target the places that haven't had much of an outbreak at all. If there are any places at risk for an outbreak its those places. And if you pick a place today that haven't had much of an outbreak you are just begging for problems. Look at Arkansas right now.

The Rangers are going to have at least 9 D. The three extras will probably be Hajek (who has some NHL games), Raddysh (an RD who had a very good year in Hartford) and Rykov. I don't know if they'll use Ebert. They control the three I :mentioned and Ebert did not have a great year is a UFA.

I think Gettinger, Fogarty, Nieves, Lettieri, Kravtsov as well. Not sure about Huska--we have 3 goalies already.

So if the Rangers can bring 50 people altogether--no wives or girlfriends then?

Is Hajek completely out of the question? I would think Raddysh, Hajek, Rykov would be the 3 candidates. 2 of them.

who are the other 6 scratches then?

One thing that is so obvious after watching hockey closely for 30 years, and what can be so darn tricky, is that hockey is just a different sport altogether in "Game 1" of a season compared to "Game 20" or 60 or whatever.

NHL coaches and teams pushes tremendously hard to do the best they can with what they have. It is like a chess game to a not insignificant extent. The NHL is at a point today where offensive teams can beat defensive teams -- IF -- they play that offensive game really well and manage to achieve certain things that aren't entirely easy to achieve. If the offensive team cannot achieve those things -- it will definitely not have the odds on its side. Hockey is a game with small marginals, but if its anyway to "lose a game" with high probability its to play a naive offensive game against a disciplined defensive team.

Like most games is a total coinflip with maybe up to 5% tilting the odds either way. To score a goal is 9/10 times about marginal, getting bounces etc. The first team to score a goal most often win the game. If its close, its more or less a coin flip.

Almost always, the only time you don't get a coinflip situation is when a naive offensive team plays a disciplined defensive team.

I like David Quinn's work in many areas, and maybe a little less in others. But -- if there is one area I think he really is weak in, it would be to get this team ready for a best of 3 series after only a very short camp lol. We have the record we have against Carolina and that is great, but if we like faced Philly, I wonder if I wouldn't have bet the house on us getting swept in 2 games because AV would just coach eights around DQ. Even peak season they could just back down and counter us fast and we gave up a tremendous amount of odd man rushes. These were really really important games in what was it 29 February and 1 March, but DQ had no idea what it would take to have a shot at winning those games. If we play those 2 like 10 times I wonder if we win 5%...

Rod Brind'Amour isn't AV and obviously we have done a lot of good things against Carolina for a long time. But this factor is what makes this series impossible to predict from my POV. We do have a pretty experienced team. Everyone have played important games before. Even most (all?) young kids have a lot of experience from IIHF best of 1 games in junior tournaments. Like even this team will of course understand that in a best of 3 series, you cannot give an inch away. We can't go down by 2 expecting to score 3.

But, OTOH, our best stretch all season came when Ziba was hurt, right? The reason for that is really obvious, in those games we didn't aim to high. We knew we would only win if we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot. If we can do that here, with Ziba, we could be dangerous.

Picking a goalie is not easy decision from my POV. Going with the "hot hand" isn't easy when we have so few PS games and a best of 3 series.

If Lundqvist blows the doors off in our mini camp and looks like he trained his ass off or is super refreshed and hungry, I have no problem with giving him a game. Unfortunately, I simply don’t expect him to look better than Shesterkin.

On the flip side, imagine Hank shows up looking vintage, gets the nod for game one, pitches a shutout, Rangers get hot, win the Cup with Hank in net and the old goat takes his Cup and retires this summer.

And Carolina and Toronto both win lottery picks so we get #2 or 3 while we’re at it :sarcasm:

Oh, and Staal follows Hank after realizing he could only see half the names engraved on the Cup.

I know?

Trouba, Fox, DeAngelo, Lindgren, Staal, Smith are your locks.

Hajek was the only other active Ranger to play this season. We have extra spots for players, so of course you want more than seven D. Your options from Hartford are Raddysh, Rykov, Ebert (if he's still actually around), Day, and Crawley. None of them have NHL experience. Raddysh has been the best performer of the bunch in Hartford.

i'd expect the spare D to include 3 or 4 of Hajek, Rykov, Raddysh and Reunanen;
Ebert a longer shot, though he has the most pro experience
Reunanen is already under NHL contract for '19-20 so I believe he is eligible.

up front, they have 13 F's on roster (if you exclude Haley), the likely choices are 4-6 from
Beleskey, O'Regan, Lias, Lettieri, Fogarty, Nieves, Kravtsov, Gettinger ,
I don't see Gropp, Ronning, Newell, Elmer in that mix ...

I know we're not there yet, but this is like 50% of a GDT, UHmazing!

Really miss the competitive juices and adrenaline sports offers. I love TV and games, but it's a different beast.

I heard something about broadcasters doing it remotely- GTFOH. Don't call it via a tv screen. They're really not close to the players at the arena, there aren't fans etc. to worry about, they should be at the arenas calling the games imo.

Have to think that Quinn is going to start with Shesty in goal, then play whoever the hot hand is.

I'm sure Henrik would love to get another playoff run in though.

Also looking forward to half the board rooting for us to lose so we get a shot at a lottery pick

The best outcome seems to be winning and Toronto also losing..... but also a bunch of other upsets. That will push teams with good records into the lottery and force the Carolina/Toronto pick earlier.

If Toronto jumps out to an early 2-0 series lead though and the Rangers are struggling and no longer look like the hot team capable of upsetting multiple favorites, then yeah, I may start pulling for them to just get knocked out.
