Not surprising in some ways. I didn't think he looked very good in his final year here so I can't imagine he's looked good this run.

A bit surprising they didn't keep him as sort of a 13th forward type and veteran presence in the room. Could have been a key motivator for these guys to get him a cup in his final year similar to how Cogs provided that spark in 2022.

Curious what they do with 4C now. I dont hate Ivanx2 but I'd like to think they could find better in waivers tbh.

I especially hate that Kelly is looking to be the 3C now as well btw.

Not surprising, he looked bad in the games I saw him.

Glad to see they aren't just playing the good old boys club and giving him a spot just because.

Like the player and person, but he's 39 and looks it on the ice. This is a business first.

Bummer. He's an eminently likeable guy. I didn't see him play but based on what y'all are saying, this was probably the right move.

Also, I believe this leaves Alexandre Texier as the only active French player in the NHL. I could be wrong though, I don't know the status of Benoit-Olivier Groulx.

Of course they do.

Of the regular players we'd expect to make the Avs roster this season:
- 11 players have won a Stanley Cup
- 9 players have played 9 NHL seasons or more
- 17 players have played 5 NHL seasons or more

The Avs do not need more "veteran leadership" or "veteran presence in the room".

It just dawned on me that Antoine Rousell is gone.

Hope Belly finds another opportunity. Avs are always going to be a tough team to make for older players, with probably the highest skating demands of any team in the NHL.

Toronto, ON.
If Landeskog does come back this year, when do you guys realistically see it happening? Feels like a pipe dream at this point. Also, is Lehkonen close to Being ready? I saw he’s skating in a non contact jersey.

Being on the team does not necessarily equate to leadership. Comparing players to Landy is rather unfair, since he was / is a unicorn when it comes to captains. But is anyone on this list a true leader even in the mold of Landy, etc?

Mac
Mikko
Makar
Toews
Virtually anyone else on the team with the possible exception of LOC.

This is not a knock on any of the 4 names mentioned. However, being a talented player does not make one a Landy-esque captain. No does it make a player a wise veteran. Calvert, Cogs, Helm, Belle - even Parise - were players who were good examples on and off the ice. @RoyIsALegend is the best possible source for Cogs news, and his take is that the players really like having Cogs around as a semi-assistant coach. I didn't think Belle had gas in the tank in his last stint here. But I think he would be immensely valuable in a manner similar to what Cogs is doing now.

Huh… I member a bunch of leadership comments and how it was lacking with basically the same group….

Groulx signed with Rangers for the season, but was cut from the camp and sent to AHL.
