that's basically our AHL 1st line.Who is poturalski and why is he still basically getting prime minutes this late in the preseason.
Big-time AHL scorer - scored 101 points for the 21-22 Chicago Wolves to lead the league. He regularly wears letters for his AHL teams, too. He's expected to help lead the Barracuda this year, but he's probably just eating preseason minutes instead of giving them all to actual Sharks.Who is poturalski and why is he still basically getting prime minutes this late in the preseason.
Graf will not start with the Sharks unless Granlund will still be hurt to start the season.
Graf may have earned spot regardless of Granlund status.
Graf may be able to earn "1st call-up" rights by playing well in this game, but there's no chance he starts in the NHL. That was obvious as soon as it became clear that Goodrow-Wennberg-Kunin was going to become a thing. Same with Gushchin.

Better at hitting, killing penalties, getting involved in useless scrums, and perfunctory forechecking, sure. Better in a generic fourth line role? Absolutely.Goodrow and Kunin are better hockey players than Graf and Gushchin.
Wennberg and Goodrow are consistent 30-40 point scorers. That's more than anyone should reasonably expect out of a Gushchin rookie season.Better at hitting, killing penalties, getting involved in useless scrums, and perfunctory forechecking, sure. Better in a generic fourth line role? Absolutely.
But on a third line? Not a chance. This isn't 2007, you need your third liners to give you more than 15 points per season while they get their shit kicked in defensively.
If Grier was serious about performance based training camp, who's on a 1 way contract really shouldn't matterGraf may be able to earn "1st call-up" rights by playing well in this game, but there's no chance he starts in the NHL. Goodrow has two 30+point seasons in his 10 year career. Wennberg is an actual consistent 30-40 point scorer and Gushchin with Wennberg and say someone like Zetterlund or Grundstrom would like produce pretty well.Wennberg and Goodrow are consistent 30-40 point scorers. They would also likely give up goals pretty well.Goodrow has two 30+point seasons in his 10 year career. Wennberg is an actual consistent 30-40 point scorer and Gushchin with Wennberg and say someone like Zetterlund or Grundstrom would like produce pretty well.
Better at defending against the other team’s best forwards. That is the primary job for that line.Better at hitting, killing penalties, getting involved in useless scrums, and perfunctory forechecking, sure. Better in a generic fourth line role? Absolutely.

That was just training camp babble that goes on in all sports. Guys with contracts always win out over guys without them.If Grier was serious about performance based training camp, who's on a 1 way contract really shouldn't matter
So would any other option you can put there. Gushchin actually has the skills to score where the others likely won't. A Gushchin-Wennberg-Kunin 3rd line is giving up a shit ton of goals. They would also likely give up goals pretty well.
Wennberg is. Goodrow isn't. And he's not good defensively either, he consistently has like a 45% goal share.Wennberg and Goodrow are consistent 30-40 point scorers. That's more than anyone should reasonably expect out of a Gushchin rookie season.
So do Kunin and Goodrow though. Kunin was -30 last year...They would also likely give up goals pretty well.

Hitting the mark twice in ten seasons is still not consistent no matter where you move the goalposts. Averaging that amount for a four year gap that doesn't include his most recent season still only has him at 4 seasons of that production for 10 seasons. That's not consistent. The Goodrow that played for New York last year and ended up -13 probably would've been -50 on the Sharks last year too. But then again, why does +/- matter here? What point is it inevitably going to fail to prove?Goodrow averaged 31.5 points per 82 games from 2019 through 2023.
Gushchin would have been -50 on last year's Sharks team. He's already a career -31 in the AHL.
