NORTH SMITHFIELD - Providence Bruins rookie center Ryan Spooner has been ruled out for this weekend's two games, according to coach Bruce "Butch'' Cassidy.
Spooner, who rode the bike this morning while the team practiced, said that he took a hit on Saturday night in Albany. He finished the game and went first in the shootout, hitting the crossbar.
He sat out on Sunday with what Cassidy said was an upper-body injury. Spooner said this morning that he didn't feel right on Sunday. He said that he did not have a concussion.
"He woke up Sunday and he wasn't feeling great,'' said Cassidy.
Garnet Exelby, who has missed a few games with a groin pull, practiced this morning and appears to be on track to return on Friday.
Torey Krug (ankle) and Colby Cohen (groin) didn't skate today.
Jared Knight (hamstring) and Trent Whitfield (concussion) skated but didn't participate in practice. Cassidy said neither will play until after Christmas.

At the game. No score after one period. Bourque had a good chance but missed the far top corner. Some penalties early on. Hightlight of the period was when Hansen was knocked down on what looked like a slewfoot and Robins just flattened the guy. Wham!

1-1 after two. Bruins goal by Bourque on the PP. To say there's been a lot of fighting and general nastiness in this game is putting it mildly.

Quite a game, very even. Could have gone either way.

That Providence 4th line sure looks exciting...Might one day soon have to replace our 4 mil 4th line with a 1.8 mil one...
He was OK. Last shift was brutal. Not all his fault of course, not like he was the only one out there.
True. Going to be a little while. After this "season" one more year for Thornton and two more for Paille/Campbell.
Would be a good thing if maybe one of the young guys forces the FO to move one of those vets. Nice luxury to have those proven veterans from the cup team, but new blood and cap space would be good too.
If you had to do so at the start of next season, who would you promote and which guy(s) would you move?

I'm seriously considering it. Going to Providence last night wiped me out but Hartford is a lot closer. Plus it's my last night of vacation and my son wants to go.

5 goals allowed is very un-Sveddy-like ... Did he have an off night or did the team around him hang him out to dry? Maybe a little of both?

It was a penalty-filled game, with most of the goals (from both teams) coming on the PP. A couple at least that he allowed were deflections that he had no chance on, and on at least one other he was totally screened (didn't even see the shot until it was in the net - it was almost funny as it whistled right past his ear, and he did an absolute WTF double-take).
Just watching Svedberg through the game I like his style - he reminds me a bit of Rask. Square to the shooter, good at deflecting the puck away and not leaving rebounds, sure of himself. Ironically, Worcester's goalie was a lot more in the "flail at the puck" mode. It was just one of those games where who got the last bounce was going to win.

No score after the first. Best Bruins chance came on a 3 on 2 during a PK. MacDermid had a pretty good fight.

The Macdermid fight was a good one. Whale missed a golden chance. Providence had a nice shorty chance

Hard to say... I would have MacDermid as my first pick only because I have seen him... The other two I don't know much about... But if you do have to clear salary immediately, I could see Hanson, MacDermid and Thornton as the 4th line..

I gotta say I'm really not impressed by Caron at all. For the guy that's supposed 3rd line fill in, I'm not so confident.

Bruins win! Bourque scored the winner with 6 minutes left, Hansen an empty netter. 3-1 final. Bourque #1 star. Hutch didn't have to work hard but he was solid, and stopped a breakaway in the second.
