He’s having a great year. First in the league in goals and third in points.

he also signed a 4 year contract with ev zug in the nla for 4 years in december according to eliteprospects. there may be an opt out clause for the nhl, but it looks like he's pretty good with playing in his home country.

Checkers talk-

Necas has been very streaky but impressive. His current streak is strong. 5 Gs and 7 As in 9 games.

Bean is having a strong statistical rookie season in Charlotte. How is his defensive game though? Will he be able to handle the big dudes of the league?

Harvard made the tournament so we’ll wait on Fox’s decision a little longer.

Boston College did not- is Cotton signed?
I'd like to see us sign Cotton asap. While he didn't dominate this season he was definitely the best player on bc and has little if anything left to prove at that level.

Fwiw here's the bracket for the tourney for anyone interested in following

1 St Cloud State
4 American International
2 Denver
3 Ohio State

1 UMass
4 Harvard
2 Clarkson
3 Notre Dame

1 Duluth
4 Bowling Green
2 Quinnipiac
3 Arizona State

1 Minnesota State
4 Providence
2 Northeastern
3 Cornell

Ned has been dominant in the AHL since 2/1. In 15 games he has a 1.60 GAA, .941 sv %, going 10-2-3, allowing more than two goals only once (3 goals on 25 shots) and having a single game sv % below .900 only once.
He has earned an opportunity to win a spot in next year's training camp.

I think Mrazek will certainly be back. Would be surprised to see McElhinney back on a one year deal though. I expect some other team will give him more term if the Canes don’t.
Good for him if he gets it. I wouldn't give it to him in our situation. About to be 36 and has had some minor injury issues this year. That would be a horrible idea. Hard to say what he wants though. He might be very happy with the situation he has here, multiyear deal or not.

I would hate the risk of going into camp relying on Ned no matter how good he's been this year in the AHL. Of course, the scary thing could be if we can't bring back either of the goalies from this year for whatever reason. I do assume Mrazek will try to work with us given the nature of his one year cheap try out this year, but who knows what happens if his asking price is nuts.

Oh, I wasn’t trying to say we should give him a multi year deal, just that I expect someone will. I also would be surprised if he wanted to be in another Sparks situation, only with Ned this time. Just speculating on my part.

That’s exactly where in at.

I had never heard of American International so I looked them up and holy crap do they ever have a lot of Europeans on their roster. This is really uncommon, right?

Sweden - 4
Czech Republic - 2
Ukraine - 1
Slovakia - 1
Slovenia - 1
Latvia - 1
Norway - 1

That’s 11/32 players on their roster coming from 7 different European nations.

Also have a guy who played for the Cornwall colts last year which is kinda cool.

Yeah a few euros are common, but certainly not a full half the line up on any given night.

Do we not already have the goalie? How do you define “legitimate starting goalie”? I’d say Mrazek is pretty much there with his play this year.

I’d like to see this level of play sustained for a longer time before deeming him a legitimate starting goalie. Consistency has always been something he’s struggled with.

Do you consider Bob a legit starter?

Bob has nothing to do with Mrazek.

Mrazek has yet to prove he can be consistent. He was once thought of as Detroit’s future starter and was moved for mid round picks. He washed out of Philly (a team desperate for goaltending) and had to take a one year show me deal with us. He’s playing great right now but I want to see that sustained.
