Source: NHL natl revenue approx. $3.7 billion this season. With new CAN TV deal, will be well over $4B next season. More in SBJ.
Where I'll have to find it I don't agree with the last part. The new TV deal will already be part of the projection, it's a know increase.
But this number should give us a better idea of what the team has to work with cap wise.
For those wondering how this is figured will give the math.
3.7B*.5=1.85B-100M for benefits=1.75B/30=58.33M+5% escalator=61.25M(midpoint)+15%=70,437,500(cap)

Now for the speculation of what we can and will do with this space.

Mike Richards. Glad I got that out of the way for everyone. Proceed.

rofl.

Pretty much any calculations I've seen have fallen between 70 and 70.5. Not bad considering the conservative estimates before. That means some people are gonna get paiiiid. NHL is making some half-decent money and that TV deal was a lifesaver.

Dunno if I buy the second projection--that the following year we'd be at 76 million--but that would solve a lot of our internal problems as well as create other ones around the league (here come some more 8-9 million dollar contracts!).

Doesn't matter for this coming season, the Kings should be well under the cap no matter what for 2014-2015. The only reason Richards is brought up for this season is because it's the end of the compliance buyout window in the CBA ends this June.

The numbers that the Kings management team is wondering about is what the 2015-2016 cap projects to be.

He's assuming that the new TV deal isn't being counted. But here is the section. 50.5(b) pg.258 in the cba.
If a significant (i.e., $20 million or more) one-
time increase or decrease to League-wide revenues (e.g., by reason of the addition or loss
of a national television contract or the scheduled opening of one or more new arenas
which is expected to result in a significant increase in League-wide revenues) is
anticipated in the next League Year, the parties will endeavor to estimate the expected
increase or decrease and incorporate that estimate into the above-stated formula for
calculating the Adjusted Midpoint.
But according to this the projected revenue should include it.

Dammit.. beat me to it!

I'm sure DL is worried about the CAP as far as 2022 and maybe even futher. I bet he has a pie chart and graph for every year between now and then.

This is welcome news, not just for next season but the one after as well. Keep climbing!
