Sauer was a player who could never stay healthy for any length of time. WHL, AHL, NHL---he was always getting knocked out of the lineup.

Girardi OTOH could take an unreal amount of punishment. You'd watch some shit happen to him and be thinking there's no way we're going to see him again for the next 3 months and there he'd be back the next period like nothing happened.

A healthy Sauer probably means that we don’t have to watch Stu Bickel dress in the playoffs. As much as I liked Sauer, he wasn’t a first pairing defenseman. Maybe that changes if he stays healthy, but I saw him as a strong 2nd pairing defenseman.

People really forget how good Staal and Girardi were when healthy and before their retirement contracts.
