Sauer's tragedy was 100% his own damn fault.

Happened to meet an NYR official, at NCAA game, a couple years after, said they were constantly on some guys (Sauer ... maybe Hagelin?) to wear their chin-straps properly, not cool and dangly

If Sauer's helmet doesn't shift, he isn't hurt so bad

he was just reaching a greater level comfort and confidence then, too
oh what coulda been

Knowing what we know currently...

I think Lindgren can have a Sauer type career.

It comes down to Fox vs McD. I think Fox will have a better offensive career, while McD a better defensive career. Obviously, we already know about McD essentially, but Fox just finished his first season.

Given what we know currently and our current needs, gun to my head, I'd probably pick McD/Sauer if they were both healthy and in their early 20's starting their career, but this is a lot closer than you think.

Sauer was quickly becoming a fan favorite and kinda defenseman I know we would have loved to watch.
Sucks!!!
Was also a big fan of Kloucek and that damn knee injury

Went with McDonagh and Sauer. They were on par with the top young defensive pairings in the league. Fox is probably the best out of the 4, but I'm not sure Lindgren is better than what Sauer was. Both served a similar role, but the size of McDonagh-Sauer would have been able to handle all kinds of lines. I have concerns about that pairing if they get out there against some of the bigger lines in the league.
